'Ding Dong' ice cream vehicles at TV?

Does TV have 'Ding Dong' ice cream vehicles on the side streets?

I know they're usually in suburbs where there are kids, but hey...adults like ice cream, too! :coolsmiley:

Maybe that could be my part-time job when we move there. Yeah, 'Gene the Ding Dong Driver."

TV wannabes who WILL be at TV Aug. 28> for a week.
We hope to meet a lot of you while we're there.

Nope... there's no soliciting in the various villages. There are plenty of fantastic ice cream and custard shops you can indulge in, though.

If an Ice Cream truck began playing his loud circus music in the Villages I will shoot him. On LI we have 3 ice cream men who play blaring music that you can hear 5 blocks away. I have complained about the noise to the Town of Islip and they won't do nothing about it. One of the reason I want to get out of town. My vote. NO ICE CREAM MAN!!! And like Ooper says, "There are plenty of fantastic ice cream and custard shops you can indulge in."

Ditto Tom. We live in a neighborhood that is still building and we look forward to the day when all the traffic is gone. A dinging bell or music on the street would not be a welcome addition to the block.

Do any of you remember the "Yummy Man" who had his wares in a big ice chest thingy on the front of his tricycle? I don't think there was any music involved.

I can see that we kids all had different names for the mobile bringer of ice cream.

some of the ic stores even deliver large quantities to neighborhood groups with advance notice. I know Bruster's does this on occasion for sure.

Taltarzac 08-18-2010 07:27 AM

I have never seen an ice cream truck in the Villages...

...but have been stuck behind one a few times while running errands in Lady Lake. Lady Lake borders the Villages at the northeast as well as some on the east side. Some of the Villages is also in Lady Lake.

Patty, I didn't know this. What a great idea. Maybe I should have a catered ice cream party soon. How much is a large quantity??? Can you get assorted flavors??? :)

This, again, raises a good point of law discussion. The Villages streets are public streets. Paid for by the taxpayers of Marion, Sumter and Lake counties. The Villages is not a gated community with private streets.

How could a "no solicitation" rule, enacted by The Villages, be enforced on public streets. The street in front of your house is no different than the street in downtown Orlando, or downtown Lady Lake.

The gates are only for show.

The Villages, it would seem, has no authority to enact any restrictions on public property. Private property? Yes, Public property? NO.

I'm not in favor of Ice Cream trucks zooking around with music tinking either, but I'm wondering when and if this no "solicitation rule" will be tested.

I'm thinking it will be tested the first time a candidate for public office knocks on your door.

I know when they were building our village, the sandwich truck came down every day with sandwiches, drinks, etc and no one complained.

NY=Bungalow Bar & Good Humor. How about the Jelly Apples/Marshmalloiws right out of the copper pots? $.02 or 2 for $.03. JA= $.05.

Tom Hannon 08-18-2010 08:37 AM

I'm sure the sandwich truck didn't play blaring music that could be heard from five blocks away.

Tom Hannon 08-18-2010 08:38 AM

If an ice cream truck is allowed to tour the Village neighborhoods, The Villages and everything it stands for will be destroyed.

I could be a little naive here but wouldn't the ice cream trucks be targeting neighborhoods with children?
On the other hand, since I gave up the hootch over 4 years ago my taste for ice cream has expanded. (so has my waist) :pepper2:

Just how many people are home throughout the day, anyhow? Some neighborhoods have many seasonal residents. Full timers may be out playing, shopping, away on vacation. Also, the novelty of an ice cream truck will wear off especially with that blaring bell, music or whatever is used to announce the arrival of the ice cream truck.
