Just drove by a Circle K gas station and got a call on the IPhone. Guess what? It was a Circle K ad. Must be a feature of the latest iOS update. Add this to the dozen or so scam calls you get everyday. There oughta be a law. There is a law?

In your, iPhone APPS go to phone then turn on ”Silence Unknown Callers”.
Only callers in your iPhone contacts will ring. Others will be forced to voicemail.

It's called the DO-NOT-CALL list law.

But don't worry, it's the most unenforced law ever enacted.

That will work, but many people (like me) won't do it because they don't want to miss important calls from people who are not in their contact list. Suppose your doctor's office or another business calls you from an unknown number? It is not appropriate for everyone.

If it is important they will leave a voice-mail. I have been using the feature for a few years and have never missed an important message.

Sad they passed an excellent law and had no interest in its enforcement.

When I get a call will answer it and if not something of interest block it so it is a one and done.

That’s why I very seldom bring my cell phone with me anywhere. There is a leash law for dogs, but as a person I won’t be put on a digital leash.

One problem with that method is that scammers use VOIP systems and make it look like they are calling from a specific number. Block it and they just call back and make the system display a different one. It is an endless annoyance!

I use the feature mentioned above (Silence Unknown Callers) except when I am having work done on the house or expecting a delivery or something, where the driver/worker might be calling me on a strange cell number. Otherwise, people can leave me a message and I'll call them back.

If the calling volume greatly increases might do as you do but for the rare annoyance calls will put up with it.

Do notice that quite a few of these calls tell me they are recording the conversation for my protection. When that is said I hang up immediately.

Too great a chance they will string together a bunch of my words and use it against me.

The only time I've ever needed a phone is when I'm out and about. What if you have an emergency or your vehicle conks out?

This concept (called Area or Vicinity Marketing)was developed about 10-15 years ago. It broadcasts a message only to those people within say a 3 mile radius of your store. developed so that small businesses could reach out to locals without the huge expense of a media (radio) buy. Example: It's snowing so you get an ad "snow bird special, buy one pizza at Joe's Pizzeria get the second for 50% off only during tonight's snow storm."

These calls come as you drive through an area. So promoting using a cell while driving is against the law. I just don't answer while driving.
