Vaccination Plan
 

Is anyone going to organize the vaccination of the masses here in the Villages. Can you imagine what will happen when it’s announced that the vaccine is available for those over the age of 65. We might have to bring a tent to overnight while we line up. Maybe it should be done in the recreational centers, by alphabet or by age but I do believe we definitely need a plan and some serious organization.

It most likely will be done at the numerous Walgreens and CVS pharmacies in the area. Probably an appointment process. The Pfizer vaccine needs refrigeration which I don’t believe the recreation centers would be able to do. All is speculation at this point.

Unless you work for state or local facilities, there is no input. Masses may not see vaccine until spring, plenty of time for facilities to draft a plan. Worrying about something you have no control over, is waste of time

I don't expect any real organization until the end of January beginning of February.

When was the last time anybody had to wait in line or camp out to get a flu shot?

Long before Walgreens, CVS, et al gave them the rec centers did a very good job of dispensing by "area" by alphabet by day....did not have to wait in line then either.

Pretty difficult to announce how to distribute until what they get and when becomes known.

This time next year (hopefully) the pandemic panic will be just a bad memory!!

No reason to be the first, wait until the initial rush is over and then get it.

I have Villages Health Care. I also have all the confidence they will handle scheduling without me having to inquire and administration with minimal wait in a safe environment that they have provide to me for years including this abnormal year. They are very efficient and great communicators. I am a snowbird. My Doc picks up the phone every once in a while when I'm away and says I was thinking of you just checking to see if everything is OK. Does your Doc do that ?

You might want to be among the first if you are elderly with significant health issues and contracting the coronavirus has a good possibility of landing you in the hospital.

I received an automated phone call 2 days ago from the Medical Reserve Corps asking if I'd be available for a mass vaccination program. Push 1 for yes 2 for no. So something is being planned. I know nothing beyond that tidbit.

You would not be part of the masses and would already have had the vaccine if you are in that situation.

Not many people have already had the vaccine, it has only been available for five days. How can you believe that all the elderly with significant health issues have already had the vaccine?

I personally know someone in that situation who has NOT had the vaccine.

I don't think Walgreens or CVS can refrigerate anything at 100 degrees below zero. The vaccine comes packed in dry ice.

Can you read? I stated that they "would" already have had it before they start with the masses which is what this post is about. Where did I state that I believe all the elderly with significant health issues have already had the vaccine?

We had our annual Medicare wellness exam today.

She cam e in wearing mask and face shield.

After we finished we asked the DR when she is getting the vaccine. Turns out she got it today at the hospital she is affiliated with and expects that medical folks will be getting it there. No side effects so far other than a bit of soreness in her arm.

She has no idea when we would be getting it and how we would be contacted but thinks it is very possible she will be notifying her patients about the when and where.
