Digital antenna?
 

Hi,
So moving to Tv in a week or so, and I need to choose a streaming service. I see some have digital antenna options for local channels. I dont have a clue if the area has good reception for these type of antennas'. Waht your experience with local channel reception? Is it worth trying to use the antenna?

Poor signals. A few locations in TV are high enough that signal is available. But many are too low and must have cable/streaming connection.

No such thing as a "digital antenna", it's just an antenna, just like we used to use before cable. The digital signal is piggybacked on the the analog carrier.
So your best bet is to go to Antenna Man - Cut The Cord. He will inform you on the type of antenna you need.

I am between 466a and 44 and receive about 50 channels from Orlando with an attic mounted antenna (DB4E).

I live near Buena Vista and 466A and have an antenna in the attic simply as a backup connected to the guest BR TV, in Florida it's good to have backup. I have Directv for the main two TVs, but I also have a ROKU stick and can stream anything. I looked into youtube TV and Hula Live TV and a couple of others, and they give you the local Orlando channels. With the antenna I can get all the local channels except WESH Channel 2 NBC. Their transmitter is not in the same location as the others and I would need a second antenna, but since I don't really use that third TV that much, I don't bother.

I just did a search of youtube TV and enter zip code 32162 and these are the local channels you'll get, which are all you'll really need. With my antenna I can get all the sub-channels for example 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 but most of them are just reruns of old shows and movies. There are a lot of Spanish Language and religious channel over the air, those I don't care about.

Looks like im going with Philo, 60 channels streaming 20 bucks per month. I will run the ant into Roku box for local channels. So Xfininty for 25 per month, Philo 20, Roku no fee. 45 bucks im done. Up north (RI) this runs me 225.00 with contract Worth doing a little reasearch.Thanks John for your well though out response!

Yes they are..

I bought one from Amazon and taped it to a window facing due east. I got 48 channels, though not CBS. Great! So I got another one for the tv in the living room, where there are no windows nearby. No channels in several different positions. I added a splitter and ran a coaxial cable from the guest room to the living room. Now I had 48 stations in the living room, too, but also a cable taped to the tile floor near the guest room. I tried the second antenna in the master bedroom, taping it to a window facing due west, the to a window facing due north. No stations from either position.

So, position really does matter. I didn’t try putting an antenna in the attic because I did to want to make holes and run wires. My house has coaxial connections in every room, but only one is hot, as I have a router and WiFi throughout the house.

What is the name of the program you’re using. I’d love to explore the legality of receiving all of these channels, including every NFL game

You Tube TV has local channels and everything you will need. .... Xfinity ROKU...just get WIFI. get somebody to help you. DONT GET CABLE or worry about an antenna

When I first moved here I tried using a simple antenna that I already it. It picked up about 4 stations, 2 of which were Spanish language. From what I have heard, NBC is a huge problem to pick up here with an antenna.

I tried a digital antenna in the window & got all of 3 channels & none of the big 4 networks. I have a ROKU smart TV & subscribe to Hulu (best for TV shows & original programs), Amazon Prime (tons of movies & foreign films - my favorite), Britbox ((best of British TV) & Netflix (original programing & foreign language TV & films). There is a lot of free stuff to watch on other streaming channels but you have to put up with commercials.
