United Health insurance accepted at Villages Hospital

I hope I am mistaken but I thought I read in the POA newspaper that UF Healthcare hospitals (Shands, Villages and Leesburg) does not accept United Health Medicare supplements. Since I have an AARP supplement this is concerning. I appreciate any information you can share about this.

No, POA was talking about United Health Care The Villages Health ADVANTAGE Plan, not Supplement Insurance. By law, supplements plans are accepted anywhere Medicare is accepted. So if you have a plan that starts with an A, or C, or F, etc. you're good to go.

I don't understand what the paper might be talking about.

The hospitalist that manages your care at The Villages Hospital, if you are a member of Villages Health (which means you are using a United Healthcare Advantage plan), works for Villages Health.

My wife has spent many days at The Villages Hospital all covered by United Healthcare Advantage.

The Villages Hospital web page lists the insurances it accepts and it includes a number of United Healthcare plans including the ones that Villages Health uses.

Health plans accepted | The Villages Regional Hospital | The Villages, Florida

The United Healthcare plan materials lists The Villages Hospital as one as part of their network.

The comment that appeared in the POA was made by the President of UF Health Shands which last year bought The Villages Hospital and the Leesburg hospital and are integrating these two smaller hospitals into their system. He was explaining why Shands hadn't accepted The Villages Health Advantage plan before (because the insurance only pays at 70% of Medicare rate). Maybe they'll work something out.

Suggest calling your health insurer to get accurate advice.

The Villages Regional Hospital an Leesburg both accept United Healthcare Advantage Plan. UF Shands Gainesville (as of Dec 31) does not accept the United Healthcare Advantage plan.

Not true......take the Villages Health Care they do not take any Traditional Medigap insurance. I call Medicare because I was floored when The Village group said they were not taking medigap plans and Medicare told they don’t have to......blew my mind

I am retired and will be turning 65 next year. Are you saying that the Medicare Supplement (Aetna) that my former employer provides me is no good with The Villages doctors?? My employer provides this for free to me. What are my options??

We have AARP United Healthcare Plan J. My AARP coverage is accepted everywhere and I have been told many times by my medical providers to never drop this coverage.

I would suggest you call AARP United Health care to get more information about your coverage. It is an excellent plan.

Straight Medicare

Speaking of Villages Health.... when my wife turned 65 and obtained Medicare, she was thrown out of Villages Health. They say you must be in Medicare Advantage or you’ll be terminated.... and she was terminated. There are some specialists that won’t accept Medicare Advantage so she opted to remain in straight Medicare and was discarded as a patient in TV! Just terrible! Had to find another doctor outside of the Villages Health Care. For some reason, the Developer insists on Medicare Advantage and if you don’t comply, you’ll be terminated. So for those turning 65, you’ll have to take Medicare Advantage if you want to use Villages Health Care as your primary doctor. If you choose not to use Advantage, you’ll be ineligible to get your primary care at Villages Health. But remember, not ALL specialists accept Medicare ADVANTAGE so beware. It’s a trade-off.

The Villages Health - primary care docs - only accept United Health Care & BC/BS "advantage" plans. If you want to keep private insurance including TriCare for life. You will need to find a doctor from another group or an individual practice. SHINE may be able to help you decide what is right for you. They are independent from insurance companies.

Why would you go to the Villages Hospital? I’ve never seen or heard of an emergency room that is as bad as The Villages Hospital. Maybe you get good care once you’re admitted but you could die waiting for someone to take care of you in the emergency room.

I go to the eye clinic at Shands. they take my Villages insurance.

Why dont you call the business office and get accurate info instead of posting here and getting numerous inaccurate responses

I was in the same situation when I turned 65, and I had to leave The Villages Health system and find another primary care doctor. I was not too happy about that, but it has worked out. Love my new doctor.
