466

I am new to TV and even after looking at a map several times, I still don't know why people tend to refer to locations as either north or south of 466. Please advise me what significance 466 has. Thank you

Basically, it's the main East/West main road in The Villages, along with 466A.

Familiar/common point of reference.

Since the Villages is much taller than it is wide, using the primary east-west streets (466, 466A, 44) makes it easier to describe where something is.

My current understanding (might be a little off)
Historic section: northeast of 27/441
Spanish Springs Area: north of 466
Lake Sumter Area: 466A up to 466
Brownwood Area: 44 up to 466A
New Area, South Area: south of 44 (No doubt this will be further differentiated by the Turnpike and the bridges once things fill out a bit more.)

It's a reference point, that's all.

When The Villages was first started, everything was north of 466. Then, about 2002 (???), The Villages bought the land south of 466 and developed the area around Lake Sumter Landing and all the way to the south. So, for awhile, there was as much Villages to the south of 466 and there was to the north and people naturally used that road as a method to identify where in The Villages you lived. Eventually, The Villages developed all that land and then crossed 466a to go all the way south to 44. So now, north & south of 44 is used just like it was when 466 was the identifier. And north of 466 usually references to older "original" portion of The Villages and south of 44 usually references all of the newer developments. I guess everything in the middle is just waste land. :icon_wink::):icon_wink::boxing2::1rotfl: (just kidding !!!!)

Look where the three squares sit relative to the major highway

I always refer to 466A as Miller Rd. which it is in fruitland park. If say 466 or 466A people get confused.
As said prior, good point of reference.
