Gas Line Protect policies?
 

I would appreciate your input on the following. I have received a letter from TECO saying that I am “responsible for the interior gas lines” at my address. It goes on to say that “repairs for leaks or breaks are payable” by me. It then lists C….. Home Services who will “help customers protect their budget with low-cost interior gas line coverage.”

In Georgia, the gas company took care of this type of problem, I do not recall ever getting this type of letter from them.

So, have you received a similar letter from TECO? How did you respond? Is this one of those needless “extended warranties” contracts? Should I trash it.

Yes, it is a needless, overpriced warranty. I would trash it.

I have never heard of a utility, public or private, repairing anything inside a home.

back in new jersey , the gas co. pseg would repair anything that use the gas, water heat,range,furnaces, or grill , gas light for a fee.

Perhaps someone masquerading as TECO, trying to sell you a policy?

Good thread, I wondered the same thing when the letter came in the mailbox. Will keep watching.

If they will throw in an extended warranty on the car I sold 9 years ago and promise the calls I get on the car will stop, it might be worth it. lol

We do not have gas but, my opinion. "How did you respond," ? It is illegal for someone to sell you anything saying we will bill you for this unless we hear from you. Gas line warranty? I expect like everything else gas lines are plastic. Our previous home in NY they were metal. Our gas-lines were ONLY 50 years old. Never a problem. Lines were checked when we got a new hot water heater and when we got a new boiler.

Budget friendly, only so much per month. My income was never steady. I never went for this so much per month stuff. Budget? All should have an emergency fund.

If, you have gas, you should know where the shut off is. Same is true for water, electricity etc.

Insurance companies are pretty much like casinos they always make money year after year. Or if they don't they raise their rates. If your gas lines get broken, you can call a licensed plumber for one or $200 for the hour it takes to get something fixed. The only way I think you'd ever have a problem is if someone puts a nail or screw thru a pipe.

I worked for a water utility and the company offered the same service protection. The home owner owns the pipe from the street and all the plumbing in the house. We were a private water utility, I believe if the water was from a municipality this may be why some may get the plumbing covered and that would depend on where you live. The municipalities in my state also didn't cover the pipes from the street or in the house. I have the Teco policy that covers the gas lines, it is not that expensive.

have you seen your gas lines? they are in the attic, look very much like the ones to connect the dryer.

Problem with this insurance is the company is not TECO but uses TECO for billing, and when there is a mistake they point fingers at each other. This company billed me incorrectly for the wrong service (they also sell a "plumbing protect" and a variety of plans), and it was messy to get it corrected -- and ultimately cancelled. You don't want to mix up your utility bill with some 3rd party service -- they should bill separately themselves. That they make billing mistakes raises doubts how they would perform on any claim.

Please search the company that provides the service. I did. They have a terrible ratings. Cinch Home Warranty. 1.5 Rating on a 5 scale. I intend on calling TECO in Tuesday to inquire why they are aligning with this company.
