What is golf car passing etiquette?
 

I move to the side when I see a golf car approaching me from behind and wave them on. I notice a couple of times I needed to pass some slower golf cars in front of me for about half a mile. I put on my left blinker, proceed to pass them on a straight-away, notice sometimes they increase their speed. I always wave and say thank you as I pass. Today a guy swerved left a little so I honked once quickly. I put on my right blinker to merge back. He honked his horn because I was passing him. I noticed he had a drink (alcoholic?) in his hand. I don't know if it was alcoholic but per chance?

I hate the slow drivers that feel the need to put the petal to the metal when you try to pass them. It’s the only time I wish my cart went over 20 MPH.

Personally, I seldom pass anyone. I'm even ok with going slower to avoid passing someone. I'm retired and never in a hurry. If someone wants to pass me, I will pull right as far as possible and slow down a bit, once they begin their pass. This gives them a little more room and they can get past quickly.

proper etiquette demands that you ride the rear bumper for at lest 1/2 mile, then when you decide to pass, raise middle finger on way by. When re-entering lane, cut it as close as you dare, then hit brakes.

OK. Now I know one reason the snow bird season is not pleasant.

If the guy in front of me is doing anywhere near 20mph I just stay a safe distance behind. If they're in the 15mph range and I have a long distance to travel I might consider passing. I think in the six months we've been here I've passed two carts that were going real slow. Other than that, I figure I'm retired. I'll slow down and enjoy the great scenery along the cart paths.

Raising the middle finger as they pass? Is that what they call "virtue signaling"??

etiquette for passing another golf cart is much the same as for a car passing another car on a 2 lane road. Just use caution and go for it if you are noticeably faster.

If someone is passing me I don’t change a thing in what I am doing. I rarely pass anyone. If someone is below 10 mph I might but for the most part I feel it is unnecessary to pass anyone. Yes it can lead to the ride taking longer but chances are they are turning soon anyway.

But seriously folks.... I don't like a faster driver on my butt, so when the oncoming lane is clear, and I know the driver behind wants to pass, I move as far right as I can, so he/she can see, and when they start to pass I slow down a bit to make it easier for them to safely get around me. Doesn't cost me a thing to let them go.

When I am overtaking a slower cart, it really depends upon how much slower they are, and how easy and safe it is to pass, and how long of a trip I have ahead of me. I can go 18 instead of 20. I am seldom in a hurry. I prefer to leave a few minutes earlier than absolutely necessary, and go with the flow. But if I want to pass, I stay back so I can see around the cart in front of me, and when I make my move I just go. I've never had to drag race the cart I was passing. Usually they are going as fast as their cart will go anyway. That's why I need to pass them.

Yep, that time of the year again. And even worse since lots are coming back after a 1 or 2 year wait.

I see the typical snowbird bashing here...much of the frustration is the frogs not having TV all to themselves (spoiled?). Remember those snowbirds pay taxes and amenities all year long. YOU'RE WELCOME
