Bermuda Grass / St. Augustine

Has anyone combined Bermuda seed with their St Augustine grass? I’ve been reading that it’s a great combination. Any thoughts or opinions on this? Looking to create a super thick lawn. Looking for serious opinions, and experiences. Thank you in advance

St Augustine grass should be mowed at 3 1/2 to 4 inches while Bermuda is mowed at 1-1 1/2 inches. Not sure how that's going to work out for you.

Just what I found online “ Bermuda mixes well with St. Augustine because it will quickly fill in the patches in the lawn that would take longer to reach with all sod. Bermuda grass seed is less expensive to plant and will spread quickly across your lawn.”

Bermuda has invaded my zoysia lawn……I would offer for free all the Bermuda you can dig up.

Bermuda goes dormant and brown in winter.

Bermuda is very invasive. Realize that if it gets into your flower beds it is very difficult to get it out.

And it looks like crap.
My neighbors lawn guy did that and now realizes he made a mistake

I wouldn't do it. There is a section of the grass along a walking train that has it mixed in and it looks terrible, the colors are not even the same. Your St. Augustine will look like it has a thin layer of unruly gray hair, it really does look terrible. You should have no trouble keeping you lawn thick and green it only needs food and water, very easy to maintain it.

I just looked up photos of Bermuda grass and it doesn't look very pretty. More like a weed but what do I know?

Probably should check with community standards if you live south of 466. Just to be safe before you do. it is a deed restriction or something you’d have to dig it up and put all zoysia back in.

Do you have a company that treats your yard for insects, weeds, pests? Maybe ask them because there is a different weed killer and fertilizer for St Augustine (floratam) grass than Bermuda or Zoysia. I personally love Bermuda and hope it takes over totally in my back yard over the Zoysia . Also if you are currently using the wrong fertilizer/ weed killer on the SA that may be why it doesn’t look bueno
