Help with blue paint color for living room
 

Hi Villagers,

I was hoping some people could advise me on a nice soft blue paint color that would look nice in the main part of the house. Not baby blue! I bought a beige leather couch and loveseat, and it looks terrible with the beige walls (kilim beige). I saw this picture and thought it looked beautiful.

1 Go to Sherwin- Williams, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Hundreds of color choices. Many in the blue tone.
2 Get some samples.
3 Get a small jar of your Top 3 choices.
4 Brush on your wall.
5 Choose the winner

Paint or have painted.

I have had bad luck with paint chips being a lot different than the paint. I have tried three already. I was hoping that someone had a good experience with blue and could make a color name recommendation. John W recommended Aqua Breeze in a earlier post a few years ago, but his picture is not there anymore

Any color grayed down quite a bit is very appealing. I never would do a stark blue color in the living room. I tried dark dark blue and had to repaint.

I have a full unopened car, and a partial can of a light blue paint that we used in a bathroom, you can have it for free.

Beige can vary from warm to cool in color temperature, creamy beige to taupe beige etc. It’s hard to recommend a blue not knowing what hue your couch is. But what I do is get sample paint then paint it on a large area like a newspaper and when it dries I take this large piece around to different places in the room to see how it would match things and in different lights.

How about a Light Blue?

I would get rid of the couch and love seat.

Yeah, I really hate painting also! LOL Villagetinker's offer was very nice and knowing him from all of his posts, I'm sure the exact mix/combo #'s are on the cans - so getting more should be no problem. Good luck to the OP and their project.

I used Winter White at home and it came out with a hint of blue. Check out the whites too, can’t remember brand.

Here's a helpful hint from Ruth Dyer, the decorator. Buy a few sheets of small poster board, say at least 11" x 14", and paint them with various tints of blue that you might like. Then, as Velvet said, carry around and hold up against the wall in all kinds of light to see which works the best.

I also agree that paint colors are often too strong mixed according to the formula. The paint dealer can tinker with the color until you are pleased. We repainted walls before we moved in and it took seven trips to the paint store in one day to get the exact tone we wanted.

So we got the color we wanted. But we hadn't learned at that time another: Choose an eggshell or satin finish over flat. Flat swallows light and in many of these house plans there are not enough windows to capture the light.

Thank you all! We will be returning for the winter in a few weeks and I hope to change the paint to something that makes me happy. I really like that soft blue in the first post. I wish I knew what the color was called. This is what I have now and it is depressing. I will try a few more samples on poster board.

No offense meant, but that looks so cold.
Even a picture on blank wall and some curtains would soften the place.

I know it needs a lot of work. The pic is a bit worst than it really is. No lamps yet :-)
We just moved in last year and need more furniture, pictures, etc. The pickings were slim last year. We ordered plantation shutters that will be installed in November and will furniture shop again this year, hopefully with better availability.
