New GE Dishwasher Fail & Villages Stated Warranty
 

We're in our new home for no more than 18 mo and our dishwasher is making noise like a buzzsaw that hit a nail in a hunk of wood (pump suspect). When we first moved in it wasn't drying at all. The service tech found that the heating element wasn't connected, fixed under warranty, all good.

Now with the new problem GE is saying the warranty expired after 12 mo., but in our closing documentation we have a letter that states all GE appliances are warrantied for "two years".
Are we missing something here?

The model number of the dishwasher is GDT665SSN2SS. I'm thinking that there are quite a few of these around these parts and I'm curious to know if others are having problems too.

Any input here would be helpful since GE wants $125 min. to show up and who know what that pump is going to cost. The decision is repair the current one or replace it.

It speaks for itself. Guess builders saving money switching from Whirlpool but you get to suffer for it

Look up the model on GE website and find warranty terms. You should have copy as part of closing. No need to guess

If you are not happy with the product and The Villages won't stand behind it. $125 min plus parts sounds like a good down payment toward something you might be happier with both from a product and service perspective.

As far as GE or Whirlpool, buying appliances these days is not what it used to be. Name brands are now bought and sold. Kenmore used to be Whirlpool stuff, and it was good. Now its LG. Like all products I've had good and bad with LG. Now lets talk refrigerators....

I did check the GE website and it does in fact say 12 mo..... but I have a letter on GE letterhead that says "as a new Villages Homeowner" I have 2 years. When I call the number in the letter (GE Factory Service) they say no it's 12 mo.

It turns out the Villages may have an agreement with GE concerning these warrantys. The number that was provided on the letter to call for service is incorrect (800 GE CARES). That is for everybody else apparently.

I was provided a different number (844.450.1814) and the outcome was much better this time.
I now have an appointment for this Thurs., so we do in fact have a two year warranty.

This isn't really info you are looking for, but I'll volunteer it anyway. We have a purchase agreement on our home in Louisiana and we plan to move to TV VERY SOON!! Our dishwasher hasn't drained for years, which didn't matter to us because we wash by hand anyway. Since we are selling our home we are replacing the dishwasher. Got a new Whirlpool dishwasher from Home Depot that is about $700 total which includes delivering & installing new dishwasher with new hoses, new electrical, etc. and take away old dishwasher. The install fee was a bit high but we figured it would be good to be able to state it was "professionally installed". And... I don't have a truck so I can't do anything with our old unit. Anyway, this is a ball park of where you could be with a new dishwasher that is a lower priced unit. Now, if you can do everything yourself, the unit itself was right around $400. I hope this helps.

One year warranty on a major appliance is pathetic. There are not disposable purchases

Is it worth the fight ? Go purchase another dishwasher and make sure it’s an upgrade to what you have ! Geeezzz Living in a wet prairie is just the beginning of your problems

If and when you decide to replace your dishwasher, look at KitchenAid. We went to Appliances Direct in Fruitland Park several years ago. I told the sales person it had to be quiet - we ended up with our KitchenAid dishwasher - has 3 shelves - top for silverware and small items - took out one of the baskets in the lower basket because of the top shelf and are delighted with it. So quiet I don't know if it's running or not. The Villages puts in sub-quality GE and we've replaced all of our appliances since we moved here.

Advice to new buyers - see if you can buy your own appliances and save yourself money in the long run and aggrevation too!

May just be something in the pump like a piece of bone etc. Should be a grill over it at bottom of compartment that you can snap off and clean out. Houses with Samsung have longer warranty if 3 or more appliances are Samsung. Ask GE if that rule applies to them as well.
