Mallory Square-Bobcat sighting

My wife told me this morning that a warning on the Ring neighborhood was posted regarding a bobcat. The posting was of a video yesterday morning, and the bobcat was observed near Mount Croghan Trail in Mallory Square.

I didn’t know about it when I walked my dogs early this morning, but one of my dogs refused to walk up a street in that area. I don’t know why he refused, but initially I thought he might have something wrong with his paw or leg.

I know that predators are around, but what was concerning was that this bobcat was out and about in full daylight. He did not appear sick, but this would not be normal behavior. If you have a Ring and “Neighbors”, you can check out the video for yourself.

Attached is a picture of are a couple of bobcats that we see all the time hunting from the perch on top of the fence behind our birdcage/pool in our back yard. They are harmless creatures that live in the wildlife preserve that feed on squirrels, geckos, and other small critters. No need to worry about them unless you have a small cat or dog that you leave unattended (which should never be done) in your yard. We very much enjoy having them as our neighbors : )

I've seen a bobcat twice wandering about in the dark hours in St.James

They keep the mice away.

Hubby and I saw the bobcat between two homes in Mallory Square last evening. It was pointed out to us by someone on our block.

This is my bobcat or more likely a coyote story which I have relayed before on TOTV a couple of years ago......

I walked outside one early morning about 5:00 am to bring the trash to the curb. A very quick animal (did not look like a dog) came running very fast right in front of me ran between my house and my neighbor's home. Within 5 to 10 seconds, I heard what sounded like a small dog screaming out in pain. That scream lasted only a few of seconds then complete silence. Ever since that incident, I'm very careful when going outside when it is dark. It was a very chilling experience. I felt so sorry for the poor little dog and his/her owner.

I see them every now and then in daylight. Had one come up right behind me while I was gardening. He was very sweet, stared at me for a minute or two and then got bored and wandered off. See coyotes, armadillos, raccoons and gators too. I love seeing all the wildlife in our backyard.

Bobcat

We saw one last year first day at about 9:30 in the morning, next day in the afternoon around 3 ish. I called the wildlife folks and they said to make a commotion like banging pots together. Said they’re more afraid of us and won’t come back if they’ve been scared off. Haven’t seen one since.

You "enjoy" having them as your neighbors until they do something you might not enjoy.

We are in DeSoto and we hear them sometimes at night and seen them on ring cameras in the area. No big deal. We are from a rural area of the country and encountered them there as well. They are typically quite timid of humans and look for prey of opportunity. It's a good idea not to let your small pet out by their self, especially if your lot backs to a wooded area. There are coyotes and large birds of prey that are out there too. They have all been here long before the villages.

Rabbits scream like small dogs. I suspect kitty got a bunny.
