Local hospital ratings decline

The ratings of two local hospitals (Villages & Leesburg) dropped from "B" to "C" -- according to a national rating group (Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade). Infections and staffing issues were cited.
Nearby Ocala Hospital and West Marion Community Hospital maintained their "A" ratings.

The Villages hospital got a C rating, that seems overly generous. Take the lowest possible rating and then go a couple notches below that and you got a more appropriate rating.

In other breaking news, the sun came up this morning...

West Marion Hospital is the ONLY one I will go to.
My wife just was there for a week, and it was great experience for her.
Clean rooms, helpful medical staff, the state's greatest doctors.

It's our secret, just don't tell anyone.

I'm sure hundreds, actually probably thousands, of us share your feelings... how sad our area is not THE standard for top medical and hospital care.

Not enough worker bees in and around TV. Developer keeps expanding 55+ Villages. Where are the young/younger workers going to live?

What’s really sad is it’s the polar opposite.

This score is produced by an organization whose primary interest is patient safety and outcome. Looking at their data the biggest point loss was because they do NOT have intensive care specialists managing, or available, for their ICU patients. So you are admitted to an ICU in both The Villages and Leesburg and you have inadequately trained doctors in those units.
Somehow other hospitals in the larger area have managed to hire intensivists to provide care for their sickest and most vulnerable patients.

When was the Villages hospital ever a B. Another rating system has it listed as a 1 with a 5 being the highest. It was a 1 before being bought and remained a 1 after a couple years with the new owner. Disappointing for sure.

Amen!

No improvement over the past years-the villages hospital needs to be investigated by medical authorities and I’m sure after an investigation they should close the place down. I speak from experience in the ER in August.

My thought exactly. Sure is a great motivation to stay as healthy as possible.
