How Often Are You At The Squares For Nightly Entertainment?

When I was on my lifestyle and short-term visits last year, I was at the squares pretty much every night, as the whole concept was very “novel” to me. I would open the Daily Sun each morning, see who was playing at each square that night, and drive or take my cart to that square ( a few times I made an appearance at all 3 squares the same night).

Once I moved here, I was going to the squares probably 4-5 nights per week for the first few months, and sampled most every band, and rated each on my phone, quickly determining which ones I preferred more than others.

Once I knew who my favorite bands were, I started just waited for them to appear at the square closest to me (Brownwood).

Then, I sorta stopped going to some that previously “were” one of my favorite bands, as the order of songs played, and even the “schtick” and “banter” between songs became repetitive, and almost identical to previous times.

7 months in, I’m down to maybe going to the squares once a week, and sometimes once every-other-week. I have found going out is more about sitting and socializing with my friends and neighbors, vs which band is playing (though I still have my handful of bands that I will make an attempt to see - just don’t want to “OD” on them).

Curious about how often others get out to the squares at night.

How often? Occasionally, usually in conjunction with some other event taking place simultaneously (car show, wine tasting, etc.) and almost always when Rocky and the Rollers are playing, which is not a problem as they usually seem to be booked on big event nights.

Hardly ever maybe once a month.

Bilyclub 07-28-2023 08:48 AM

We tend to go in spurts. Depends on the weather, crowds, tee times, bands.

We visit one of the squares nightly even if just for an hour or two.

Been here almost 5 years now and have gone to the Squares maybe 4 times. Holds no interest for me. Usually too hot, too crowded and too noisy. I'm glad others enjoy it.

Rarely at first. Never anymore.

Except for maybe those tgat really enjoy live music, the squares quickly become a novelty that fades fast

We’ve been here a little over two years now and went through pretty much the same progression you have. We’ll still go once in awhile to see one of our favorite groups or maybe to see a new group that plays music that we like. But it seems with all the new housing along the periphery of The Villages that the squares are getting increasingly crowded, even in the summer. We probably go to paid shows at Savannah and The Sharon more than we go to the squares now.

Occasionally, not so much anymore..

Most would agree two things about the squares. First, it’s a great marketing tool for the TV Developer and two it’s a good money maker with all the monthly commercial leases. For most residents the novelty wears off after the first couple years. We only go occasionally to eat at the restaurants, take in a show, or some other special event such as the monthly classic car cruise-in. To each his own.

Less frequent visits to the squares could be a sign the honeymoon period may be waning.

After 11.5 years here, we never go to the squares. Too loud, too crowded, too hot, difficulty parking, questional talent of the bands. I could go on, but won't.

Chi-Town 07-28-2023 11:11 AM

Once or twice a week. At least once a week one square or another has some sort of event.

Dotneko 07-28-2023 11:21 AM

Never. We are a 2 minute golf cart ride to Sawgrass and we have never been there at night. I have brought guests to dinner and totally forget that there are bands playing until we are trying to park at BlueFin lol.

After 10 years here, pretty much down to whenever we have curious visitors and maybe Rocky once a year.
