Insurance

Hi all,

What home insurance companies are left in Florida? Are they writing policies for new owners? Can/will my realtor help out with getting a policy, or should I reach out to an insurance broker directly as I am looking (and if that's the case, any recommendations?)

Thanks!

Lenders and realtors always have insurance agencies in their contacts

Contact villages insurance and State Farm to start.

Property owners in Florida will now have a choice of four new insurers this year after the Orion180 Select Insurance Company and Orion180 Insurance Company were approved Tuesday by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR).

They will join Mainsail Insurance Company, which was approved in August, and Tailrow Insurance Company, approved in April.

Go to an independent broker. They represent more than one insurance company. Only time they can not write a policy is during a hurricane watch or warning. Left? Good ? Very few, if any, national carriers.

Definitely do some checking around. There can be crazy differences. We were looking for our new home that currently requires flood insurance (FEMA maps not updated yet). The Villages Insurance was like $1400 for the house but another $2800 for the flood.

We went to Kin insurance. They were about $1800 for the home but less than $300 for the flood. I still don't get it, a $2500 difference for the flood quote. Anyhow, Kin has been pretty good customer service as we sign up.

MSN had an article that said 2 new companies are coming to Fl for homeowners insurance

I would get several quotes, my policy up for renewal and only few dollars increase this year. Around 850 for home and 750 for vehicle.

Notice that they do not have name recognition. Another fly by night Florida insurance company.

Babubhat 08-30-2023 05:53 PM

Unsupported statement. Name recognition is meaningless. They are often subsidiaries of larger companies.

AM Best has assigned a Financial Strength Rating (FSR) of A- (Excellent) and a Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating (Long-Term ICR) of “a-” (Excellent) to Mainsail Insurance Company (Mainsail) (headquartered in Bedminster, NJ). The outlook assigned to these Credit Ratings (ratings) is stable.

The ratings reflect Mainsail’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, limited business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

Mainsail is a newly formed, wholly owned subsidiary of Spinnaker Insurance Company (Spinnaker). The ultimate parent company is Hippo Holdings Inc., which acquired Spinnaker on Aug. 31, 2020. The ratings of Spinnaker are being extended to Mainsail, which plans to write admitted coverages sourced through program administrators and managing general agents. The ratings assigned to Mainsail reflect the existence of a 100% intercompany quota share reinsurance agreement with Spinnaker.

The FSR of A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term ICR of “a-” (Excellent) for the members of Spinna

We have Kin Ins. Very happy with premium amount and customer service though we have had no claims.

Never seem to hear USAA insurance mentioned in any postings about insurance. Why?? Have had it for many years and seems to be competitive

I’m an Allstate Agent working remotely. We are not writing any property in FL however; we have several partners I may be able to provide a quote from. Please feel free to call 954-437-9220 ext. 307 or email hrichardson4@allstate.com.

Thank you,
Holly Richardson

USAA not writing homeowners in FL right now. We have it but my sister who just bought here was not able to get. I was on phone with them yesterday with a question and the lady reconfirmed still not writing in FL but keep checking.
