Sinkhole draining lakes Hacienda Lakes Course
 

A sinkhole is draining the lake on Hacienda Lakes course, hole 5 — as well as severely lowering the lake off Panama Pl, that feeds it. Both The Villages and Golf course are aware of issue, but nothing has been done so far. Hopefully the golf course will address it before both lakes go dry.

How will they do that before it goes dry?

Sinkholes/water in TV was and still is a big engineering issue. Lakes are always being pumped in and pumped out. If water in that lake is a sinkhole fixing it will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, What about the lake/sinkhole between 1st fairways between Lakes and Oaks?

Shhhhhhhhsh, Villages employees aren’t allowed to use the dreaded S word, they are referred to as depressions.

For the so-called "lakes" in The Villages? The cork wouldn't have to be very big.

Most of them can't even be properly called "ponds" ... more like drainage impoundments or puddles.

& a "sink hole" draining a pretend lake, works much better for The Villages' drainage system. The whole point is to get water back into the aquifer.

We live on a retention pond, it's very peaceful, not too big, has homes on two sides, maybe 10 or so, it is well landscaped and maintained, lots of wildlife, and did I say very peaceful. We bought our home as soon as we saw the view.

You would think that their first choice would be to monitor the posts on TOTV for the best options.

If there's "maybe 10 houses around it", it's more like a retention or detention basin (impoundment). Don't be surprised the day you wake up and it's gone dry.

There are 14 lakes, YES, LAKES within 5 miles of the Villages. Many more in the surrounding areas. You should get out and explore some of them. Beautiful! Lake Sumter, Lake Miona, Lake Denham, Lake Deaton, Lake Okahumpka to name a few.

We had the same problem in a lake on hole 9, Longleaf. Took a year to fix it. No small job. They drained the lake and once they finally found the sinkhole area, I believe it was filled with concrete. Then of course it took a long time for Mother Nature to refill it.

We had the retention pond behind our house develope sinkholes twice and drain the pond. The second fix was a liner and that has held for 18 years. It took a year to do the work. We now have a beautiful year round lake behind the house and love it. All of Florida is plaged by sink holes due to the limestone that gives way in dry spells where the water table below drops leaving nothing to hold the limestone up. The Villages does a good job of taking care of sinkholes as they open as do all towns in Florida. There are proper steps to follow per the FDEP which take time. There is no quick fix, but there are correct fixes.
