Golf courses and lack of drinking water!!

As most golfers know the ambassadors no longer carry water with them, no big deal they say, the courses have water. Well, played Bonifay today at 4:30 with temps at 97. Yes I brought my own water as I am not a fool; figured I could refill as needed. First water station water must have been close to 90 degrees, not what I call drinkable. Second chance was at the bathroom but no you couldn't fill a cup due to lack of pressure. Third chance at last water station didn't have any water period!!! Sorry but this is unacceptable!! Remember the good old days when the ambassadors drove up and asked if you wanted some cold water; they say they can't do it safely any more when you ask. Just another example of poor golf management; or as they like to say blame it on the weather!!

Most villagers have a cooler on their golf cart. I played Evans Prairie in this afternoon’s heat and brought two large power aid zeros, a couple bottles of water, and a cold beer for the last hole. All were nice and cold when I drank them. I wouldn’t trust drinking anything that I didn’t know its source. And the conditions at EP were very good : )

What did the pro say when you shared your concern?

Boy Howdy. My golfer has his little Cooler on the back, right next to his divot filler. I think he was a Boy Scout because that lad seems always to be aware of the weather and prepared for it. He is prepared for GOLF. He even brings a jacket when it's cold and an umbrella just in case it EVER rains on a golf course.

I just find myself very confused about this. I am quite sure the initiator of this thread is accurate. It really has been very hot these days, almost everyone I know is mentioning the warming trends and they talk about it all of the time on T.V. too. I suppose that the water is heavily used in this kind of weather, ....and they could be running out by four. I know this...In all the years I played golf here, the ambassador folks were very helpful and not at all directing, as they were in the golf courses I played in Ohio, before we moved here. (Sometimes I wish they could be a little harsher with slow play and speak to newbies taking too long looking for lost balls..) but I have guessed that the policy is to expect good behavior from the fine older people we are and not boss them around too much.:D

The Florida Legislature voted “ have chosen to sponsor legislation that prevents cities and counties from setting workplace standards that require water, cooling measures and recovery periods after work in hot weather. Requiring companies to post or distribute materials informing workers about staying safe in swelter heat is also prohibited”
Guess this applies to you also…

Yes, that would be interesting. Thought the pro's were only contract employees, don't really know, but seems they would not be the ones to control when, where, how, if, etc. water is available. Yes, I certainly DO remember when the "ambassadors", who really never functioned as rangers, but more like hosts, a true ambassador, and always offered cold water, and a "gentle" suggestion to always keep hydrated.

Was sorry to see that small concession/concern for residents "disappear". Suppose every penny saved is important, but to me it's a shame. Yes, will definitely HAVE to remember to take water/drinks. Just played 9 yesterday and realized what I "should" have done.... was miserable until got to drinking fountain, and then found the water unappetizing to be polite about it. Wonder why/who decided it would be a good idea to NOT have the ambassadors offer cold water ? Is there any chance that, in the future, they will begin putting "for sale" bottles of water on all ambassador carts ? I know probably not "beer/sandwich" offerings as that involves licenses, health inspections, etc. but perhaps at least selling the previously free water ? Who knows ! Have not even checked, is free water still offered to tennis and pickle ball players ?

I learned a long time ago, not to go anywhere in Florida without bringing your own water.
