Any experience with cataract surgery at lake eye

I used St. Lukes, Dr. Ireland for cataract surgery, excellent results about 2 years ago.

I forgot to ask, I am assuming that you are new to cataract surgery, so I strongly suggest you familiarize yourself with all of the options. There are 'standard' lens covered by Medicare, and then there are several upscale lens and variations that are not fully covered. From my research some of these have side effects that people were not happy with. Also, there are some eye problems that cannot be corrected with new lens, specifically if you need a prism or if you have astigmatism, I have both so I went with the standard lens corrected for distance, and glasses for reading and these two corrections. I have been wearing glasses since age 11 so it was not a big deal to continue. I have 20/15 for distance without my glasses, and about the same for everything else with my glasses. Also, Medicare does not cover the LASER type surgery, I opted for the traditional knife, with no problems.

Hope this helps.

Yes Dr. Holman is very compassionate, has a fantastic personality and a reputation of being one of if not the best eye surgeon in Florida. He did my wife's eyes 10 years ago with multifocal lenses and today sight is still perfect.

Had it 6 years ago at st Luke’s institute, chucked glasses in trash, have use reading glasses otherwise 20/20 vision. Best investment I ever made. Another Bennie I can see without prescription sunglasses when out in sun. I did have couple floaters in left eye. Took less than five mins to zap them.

I do not know if this applies to Lake Eye, but several eye doctors in the Villages have decided to require that you agree to arbitration in the situation of a malpractice claim. You loose your right to sue. They have to agree to the arbiter.

I understand no doctor wants to be sued. No taxi driver wants to be sued but would you get into a taxi if the driver insisted you sign away your rights before he accepted you as a passenger?

St. Lukes, Dr. Ireland for cataract surgery more positives comments here than anybody she did mine

Yes, me, my husband, & @ few of our friends have all had cataract removal and lens implants done by Dr. Gutti (Penn State grad) & everything went well for us. He’s very good @ explaining all your options & what would work best for you & your budget.

Not Lake Eye, but my wife and I both used Dr. Ireland at St. Lukes in Lake Sumter within the last two years. Cannot say enough good stuff about her and the entire staff. They have the procedure and the pre op stuff down to a science. Very caring, very expert, very efficient. We could not have been happier.

If I had to do it again, I would go with dr Ireland at St. Luke.

My overall impression that Lake Eye care more about their bottom line than their patients well-being. They don’t accurately disclose the true costs of their surgery. I believe Dr. Holman is a decent surgeon and but he is also a charismatic salesman. He tends to oversell the benefits of cataract surgery as well as the premium lenses.

I had a cataract surgery with dr. Holman a couple of years ago, which mostly went fine. It took almost a year and dozens of phone calls to get back a couple of thousands dollars that I overpaid due to an insurance glitch. Plus, a few minutes before my surgery they suddenly offered me an optional eye test not covered by insurance. Of course I said yes, but I wish I knew that this was coming ahead of time.

Make sure to ask all the questions including the financial ones during your first visit with dr Holman. You won’t get a chance to do it later because you won’t see him before the surgery. And nobody else will tell you much. They will present a very complicated payment chart that does not give you an accurate picture of what’s covered and how much you’d end up paying.
