Adam Scott Putting
Why doesn't Adam Scott putt like a normal golfer? Obviously, he can putt anyway he wants, but I think he would putt better the normal way.

As for Adam Scott, he had to change his technique few years ago, if I remember correctly now can’t’ wedge putter into your chest. Has to be all hands/arms now?

Because extra putts cost pros money.

Perhaps he knows more then the average golf hacker?

Slightly off topic, but I remember when Sam Snead started putting with the ball between his legs. They banned it only because it didn't look dignified. Now, you need to have both feet on the same side of the line of the putt. |
He is trying to eliminate the yips. The longer putter is more stable, wobbles less during a stroke. At least that is the theory. The USGA was challenged by the longer putter when it first came on the market about 20 years ago. It was allowed to anchor on the body, and in doing so, eliminated several degrees of freedom. A putter can go up, down, in out, rotate, etc. If a putter can be anchored to the chest, many of these movements are eliminated, so the USGA said, ok, you can use the longer putter but it can't be anchored.
That said, the longer putter is more stable because it is heavier and has more resistance to wobbling. At the pro level, putting makes the difference. Zalatoris and Dechambeau both have putters with longer grips positioned along their forearm, trying to keep the putter stable and consistent. That's all Adam Scott is trying to do, and obviously he feels he putts better with it. What I have heard is the one knock on longer putters is distance control. |
