Neighbors Cleanup

I'm just going to throw this down and see what happens. Here goes:

I would like to challenge, or suggest maybe, all villagers who are physically able,
to go out on their streets, their blocks (whatever you can do) and start collecting some of the greenery that is ALL OVER THE PLACE. It will take a few garbage bags, a rake, and a little sweating. My intention is to ease the work for the maintenance crews who really have their work cut out for them. I took my friend home this morning since she stayed overnight at my place. I could not beleive the amount of leaves, twigs, palm bark, [and more of all of that] in the gutters, the storm drains, along the sidewalks and MM paths. If we all do just a little bit, our crews will be able to focus of the big stuff.

I'm in! Anybody else?? And I'm not suggesting everybody do this, just those of us who are physically able and want to chip in to help our community. BTW, Cherry Lake up at Lake Sumter Landing, is 8 inches over top of the walkway (boardwalk as some of us call it). And the gazebo is totally gone. Let's get to work neighbors.

Excellent suggestion. I picked up tree limbs for two neighbors who have limited mobility.

Once upon a time.... this was the STANDARD O P in The Villages, everyone helped everyone and especially any neighbor who had a medical challenge. Now ? Not so much ! I'm sure some villages and neighborhoods are better than others, but BIG CHANGES have taken place, some "neighbors" have never spoken to anyone on the street, never introduce themselves, and certainly do no join in the social "club" of the village or neighborhood. It's sad to see this happen... good for you to at least try to promote this ! ! WE NEED MORE OF "how it used to be", that's for sure ! Could also help to have fewer, or even prohibit, the in and out "motel" like use of homes here. Wonder how many would like to see some "rules", or restrictions, or are things just too far gone with anything goes ?

Well I cleaned up the leaves in the street and storm drains (my block only) and removed debris from a few elderly neighbors' properties. I have to say - it really felt good to help by contributing in this way. I sure hope others who are physically able - will do the same. It just makes sense to be neighborly and helpful. The world and our community needs more cheer and goodwill. And what a beautiful day we have today.

This has/is being done. I’ve seen it in our villages many times in the past.
People just help their neighbors… but don’t brag about it on social media.

Your assumption that folks are not helping their neighbors is probably wrong.

I had several e-mails from The Villages and one of them asked that we don't put clean-up debris in plastic bags. I assume that the special pick-ups for debris are going to a composting site - different from the regular garden waste pick-ups which go to the incinerator.

Quite why you think I would bother to post misinformation...

Great idea. We already did that Thursday morning neighbor’s yards, limbs on the street, and cleaned out a number of street drains that were plugged with debris. Others here in the neighborhood were doing the same.

Jersey girl? Hmmm didn’t the bad parking people have a lot of posts about cart with that on it? Sounds familiar.

Our neighborhood already did just that.

Our neighborhood was out "together", counting our lucky stars, greeting each other, picking up debris on our own properties, THEN on the street, in the storm sewers and in neighbors yards who weren't able.
Talk about self-grandising, we all got together and cleaned up the "snow birds" property... you know, the one who leaves for Michigan, barely trim their crape myrtles when they are here, never power washes their house, let's their grass turn to weeds, let's massive weeds grow in the plant beds and barely waters to save money.

We are the Champions tho!!!

We have 9 lawn bags full of branches and the garbage men did not pick it up today. Regular garbage was picked up.

Somewhere on here you will read …… the contractors will pick up your 9 bags.
