Garden waste collection
 

I thought the regular trash collectors were meant to be picking up garden waste?

I put my trash out - a bag of garden waste plus a bag of household waste sitting on top of a tied bundle of garden waste - and the two bags were taken but not the small amount of tied garden waste.

I have been away for a month, so there has been nothing on my driveway to be picked up during that time, and the bundle of garden waste was clearly fresh (having been cut down yesterday) so are they just expecting the "special" collectors to pick up all unbagged garden waste?

I would call the trash collector (for us it is CSU), and complain about the lack of picking up yard waste. I have had no problems putting out palm fronds ever since the recycling and yard waste pickups disappeared.

I did wonder if it was the fact that I had a palm frond on top of the pile, and maybe they thought that came down in the storm, but if they're taking yours I guess not.

IMO they were told not to pickup hurricanes debris and are waiting for money from FEMA so they get paid twice. Still see pile of debris’s still long after hurricane, Course now all leaves have scribbled up and fell off and grass dead where piles set. Next spending replacing sod. If it was tied up in bundles of 3 feet or less it’s not hurricane debris which pile up in big piles so bucket truck can pick it up.

If you just lay it out there it won’t be picked up. I had cut my palms up and tie them up or bag them to get them to pick them up.

I cut everything into manageable lengths and they are usually very good about taking it, so I suspect there is some confusion about what they are supposed to be doing

Just glad we don't have any storm waste as many of our neighbors will have nasty-looking grass once that finally gets picked up

Mrs bogie is a gardener so we have a lot of waste. Have never tied up bundles just cut in reasonable lengths. Use a lot of those brown paper bags and are always taken .
when 10 or more bags always give them cold water or soft drinks.

Money from FEMA for clean up from what was essentially a storm here, like any storm, sounds like an abuse of what FEMA is meant for. Parks and golf courses were closed for clean up or dry out. That's emergency? We don't even have street cleaner service, (which is surprising for a city) but want FEMA money? Doesn't sound right to me.

Contact the district (probably SLCDD but maybe VCCDD or your numbered CDD) and ask how you can make a payment to cover your portion of the unexpected expense to clean up from what was essentially a storm here, like any storm. If you really want to feel good about it then pay my portion as well.

Doesn't sound right to you but apparently sounds right to the local district, County, State, and FEMA.

Most people don't know/realize that the Morse family develops the areas, builds out the areas, then sells it to the various CDD districts, which essentially become like the City governments in the cities where we all lived previously. The CDD's take over the financial responsibility from the Morse family and our amenity fees are what fund the CDD's.

If our previous City needed more money to cover their expenses, they would try to find funds to fill the gaps by looking for grants or other government funding so they could avoid raising taxes for their residents. Here, it would mean raising the amenity fee to cover their financial responsibility. The CDD's are doing what every City does to avoid raising costs for their residents.

Amenity fees are paid to the SLCDD, VCCDD, or Developer in new sections and can only be used to fund amenities. They are not used for debris collection, they are not used for flowers, and they are not used to fix sinkholes. They are only used to pay for amenities. Amenity fees can only be increased as provided for in the deed restrictions which basically means a yearly increase tied to the CPI.

Your local government is your numbered CDD (mine is CDD10). These entities are funded by the annual maintenance fee that everyone sees at the bottom of their property tax statements. For districts south of 466 (and possibly above but I'm not clear on that)a portion of these maintenance fees are also sent to the SLCDD for use in maintaining common areas. These are the funds that are spent under advisement of the PWAC. It would make sense that these funds are being used for the storm cleanup. When the numbered CDDs need more money they can increase the maintenance fee. CDD14 and CDD15 experienced this in the current year while my CDD raised the fee last year.
