Morning all - Newbie here - thought I was living the dream here, until two nights ago enjoying an evening outside dining and suddenly eaten alive by mozzies. Sat on our front porch near Brownwood last night and bitten again. I thought mozzies only liked warm nights??

Question - Yes, I know this is Florida and this comes with Mozzies, but just wondered why they have suddenly appeared, and will this be ongoing through the winter?

I'm from South Florida The mozzies, as you call them, will be here 24/7/365. Welcome to Florida. Sit inside a screen room, it helps. There may be a few nights when it gets cold they won't come out, but very few.

They come out feeding hard after sunset year round.

Florida mosquitos eat pesticide for breakfast. The only thing that keeps them away is a stiff wind.
There is no winter kill-off here so they evolved quick and vicious :)

The bright Florida sunshine keeps them away. Never had mosquito problems except at very low light, and our yard abuts a wildlife preserve (glorified swamp and flood water management area).

Try using a box fan to blow them away from you.

And here I was, wondering why all the lanai’s and bird cages were screened in…

just wait till January/February when the northerners are dealing with snow and ice, and you are playing golf/ using the pool. You will LOVE Florida then!

A couple weeks before I moved here from Minnesota I was talking with a guy at the end of my driveway. You could see a cloud of mosquitoes in the air. We were being bitten so badly we had to cut our conversation short. That's like one of my last memories of living there, lol.

I could actually tell mosquito stories, that's how bad they are.

Buy a Thermocell. It’s a small device with a butane cartridge and a pad treated with something. I’ve been taking out at night in the Everglades with my airboat and sit at one of the camps. A couple mosquito bites and my buddy said it didn’t work. I turn it off & in five minutes later we were covered. Turn it back on in five minutes. They were gone. They may have some electric ones to plug in the wall. It is absolutely unbelievable!!!!

Yes, when my friends sit out on the deck, out comes the Thermocell. It's life changing.
