canvas roof cover on birdcage

Canvas roof covers were approved recently. Is anyone going to put a canvas on their birdcage and if so who are they using to have it done?

I'm curious .. who "approved" canvas roof covers and how did you find out? Was it in the newspaper? Do covers have to be a certain colour? Do they have to be approved by the ARC?

Canvas roof cover for birdcage

Changes were made effective mid July. I stumbled upon this info. on thevillages.net page...VCDD section this morning while checking on something else. (quoted below)

I was wondering who does this type of work. On the Nancy Lopez Torrey Pines nine - one home on hole 4 and one on hole 5 have canvas covers. My husband and I have admired it and considered adding a cover to our birdcage but wondered if it was "allowed".

If anyone knows of a company doing this type of work, please post it on TOTV. Thanks

We recently had a quote for the Sunbrella bird cage cover. Our understanding is that Sunshine Awnings (Russell) at 352-787-4436 is the Villages approved contractor for this. He can show you photos of what it looks like. You can pretty much choose any of the Sunbrella fabrics. It does require Architectural Review Board approval. You can also do a partial cover, if you don't want the entire top of the bird cage done. We are looking at doing an area of 12 x 16 and the cost was around $1,000. Hope this helps.

We will be having our birdcage built in the fall. I was wondering if these awnings are installed over screen or is the roof screening even necessary? We like having the choice of covering the roof and will be looking.into wether the cost will be $1000 more on new construction. Thanks for the info we would have never thought to ask if this could be done!

Thanks for the information. We are also interested in having a canvas cover on our birdcage. We would appreciate information from someone who has had a canvas cover added to their birdcage. I will also contact Sunshine Awnings to find out if they have a online catalog.

What does it look like? Are there any pictures of it? What about wind?

If you go north on Buena Vista Blvd and just pass the Savannah Center turn right onto El Camino Real, you will see a home with a Canvas top on their bird cage. You can not miss it. I asked T&D Construction and they said there is no problem with wind.

I drove by one today. It looked like a tent without walls. Not unattractive. The wind? Good question for the installer.

When you have been here when a hurricane visits, you don't want a parachute on your home. Just my opinion after being here for a few hurricanes. :posting:

We get some incredible winds here without the hurricanes! I wonder if the cover would take the birdcage with it?

T and D Construction are a reputable company .. If they say no problem with wind, they've probably developed a fail-safe way to anchor the canvas tops.
