Plastic Wrap
 

Has anyone ever tried plastic wrap on the front of your hood to keep love bugs off? I think I'll run a test. It may be a bit of a challenge but I'll give it a shot. I know that you can have some kind of permanent protective coating installed.

George, There was a movie I posted about Vaseline doing a good job. Have you tried it?

How would you keep the plastic wrap on at.... What do you drive? 60 mph? :laugh:

If you cover the radiator grill, than your engine wouldn't get the air it needs...

Wouldn't the heat from the motor melt the plastic wrap to the paint?

Back north we have a problem with "sand flies". They're ALMOST as bad as lovebugs.....but not quite. Some people put a type of screening in the front of their vehicles and it seems to help.

Now who is going to be the bright soul to invent a screen for golf carts?

1) Vaseline might be a PIA to get off.

2) Never intended to cover the grill.

3) Don't know about engine heat melting the plastic wrap but I don't think it will. I'd be more worried about the heat from the sun.

I covered one side mirror and one headlight for a test. I'm driving to Orlando tomorrow so that will be a good test for it staying on.

I know it's a bit of a crazy idea but that's how most inventions start.

It's a bit like a heavier Saran Wrap. But believe me, it does the job! A friend and I drove a car he bought from NY to OH a few years back. He'd bought the Road Wrap before we left OH to go get the car. We applied it to the clean car before we started the road trip back and it worked out great! Not intended as a rock protector but it certainly seemed as though it would do well if small pebbles, etc. flew up off the road. It's also intended to be left on temporarily.

That's cool Bill and it gave me another idea. My BIL is a mover, when I moved down here he gave me a large roll of the plastic that stores use to contain packages on a pallet. I forgot I still have it. Time to RAP!

There was a thread a while back about an airplane window product that keeps them clean and makes bug removal easier. I believe someone stated that you could use it on the hood also. It's called All-Kleer. I bought some online but haven't tried it yet.

My plastic wrap experiment flopped. The plastic wrap didn't stay on the front of my vehicle very long at all. It started coming off at 30mph. However, it did stay on the side view mirrors back and forth to the airport so it wasn't a total flop. Back to the drawing board.

I expect you're referring to leaving the windshield down. Try an adjustable window screen found at hardware stores. Fits and works perfect on my Polaris.
