Golf carts passing golf carts
My golf cart goes 19-20 mph, electric. I am always having to pull over and let a cart pass because I am not going fast enough (know this because they are on my butt). What is the big hurry? Aren't we retired? I had a couple yell at me because I stopped at a tunnel exit and didn't try to beat an on-coming cart.
Is the problem just me? |
"Is the problem just me?"
Yes, if you let it bother you. Been here four years and some carts will pass you. So what? |
Really, get a faster cart or just live with it.

No it is not just you. Your first mistake is pulling over to let them pass. You take the risk? Let them take it....the cart path is for GOLF carts and golf cart speed.
And do remember the jerks who yell at anybody for not getting out quicker are in the minority so let us not cast an ugly shadow on the majority of us who are here to have fun in retirement. Those in a hurry have something to prove....how fast they can get to the television set or beer stube or their geritol....thank God they are the minority and unfortunately like all minority (not race!!!!) situations these days....they do get the attention.....what a pity. They don't deserve it. Keep smiling at them. Makes them wonder what they are missing! btk |
Give them a big smile and a wave when they pass you!

You can only control your own actions. Just do what feels right to you and try not to stress. Eventually the speedsters will pass someone on the road with an unmarked car behind them and get a mountain of fines. You'll just drive pass them and the Sheriff at 19 mph. Smile and wave as you do. |
I’ve had carts pass me and I’ve passed carts. Don’t let it stress you out. If someone yells at you, then give them the stink-eye. You can smile and wave if you want to, but I’d give them the stink-eye. :icon_twisted:

Back in my cart loaner days I had the signal for "come on around" down pat. Most everyone waved to say thanks! I always found a nice safe staight away and turned on the turn signal, slowed down and waved 'em on. I am in no hurry...
Now my new ride....well let's just say unless I ease off the pedal NOBODY catches me now! :boom: |
My cart goes 24 MPH. I use that extra kick to pass those 12 mph rentals and when the road in front of me is clear. BUT if a cart in front of me is going 18-20 mph I do not attempt to pass. If you are going the speed limit there is no reason to pull over and give way to THE BULLY DRIVER.

I spent to many years of my life being in a hurry to get to work, home, store, etc., you name it. I came here to retire and lead a leisurely lifestyle. I choose not to do the "In a Hurry Thing" anymore.

Hi
It is not unusual or illegal for a STREET LEGAL golf cart to use the cart paths. They are legally allowed to go 25 MPH. You do not have to give way to them and they should wait for a clear passing area. Just as in cars tailgating should not be done. What irks me is the ILLEGAL golf carts that have been hopped up to above the 19 MPH limits and do so without paying for tags and insurance. |

Why worry about someone trying to pass your golf cart with a faster cart? There is nothing you can do about it.
On the streets, the speed limit for carts is 20mph. Let the Sheriff catch them and ticket them. On the multi-modal trails, the Sheriff has no jurisdiction and some carts want to run at full speed. Let them do it. Of course, if one of the carts going at 30 mph hits you, their insurance is going to pay you and then they will cancel that driver. You can also sue him for whatever he is worth, too. |
