2 car accident - roundabout by Havana
 

Two cars did a little fender kissing routine, luckily it looks like no one was hurt.

Maybe those new directional signs for the roundabouts will help.

Reducing each circle to one lane would help, doesn't seem that we get that much traffic that we couldn't manage.

Better yet, no more circles, make everyone of them a square like driving around the town squares. On second thought, we'd probably still need to make it one lane.

How about taking all of them out and hiring good old fashion traffic cops to direct the traffic flow. (They would need very good insurance.)

My sentiments, exactly. I have said it before and I'll say it again, The Villages is no place for 2-lane roundabouts......too many old people with tunnel vision, not to mention poor vision, necks that don't turn so they can see who is beside them, a likely large percentage of them in the early stages of dementia. As many as 11% of people at age 65 have dementia and that number climbs to 25%-45% heading toward age 85......pretty scary to know that one in five people (or more) in a roundabout at any given time may not even know where they are. A retirement community is no place for roundabouts unless they are one lane.

Roundabouts are FAR SAFER than any other intersection that could be used to replace them. They certainly increase the traffic flow.

If someone is going to hit me, I'd prefer the glancing blow I'll get in a roundabout .vs. the t-bone of an intersection...

Two lanes in the traffic circles had to be (county ruling) in order to build to the particular density of homes here, at least in Sumter county.

Wait a minute I was distracted txting while driving.

How many times do you eyball a driver, Truck Car or heck I have even seen bicyclers and motorcycle operators txting. At a light or coming at you looking down at the phone txting.

This is a Huge NATIONAL problem that until the devise is made immobile or is docked with the car for voice free will never go away.

It is getting scary out there. And teenagers are not the only ones to blame. I have seen people my age looking down wandering on the road to read a txt.:cus:

Roundabout road rules
 

I think the real problem is that so many people do NOT know the rule to navigate a roundabout. If one is going more than halfway around one should use the inside lane. The outside lane is for those who are only going halfway of less than halfway around. This rule should be mandatory for every resident and renter to learn and understand.

What happens when the person on the inside lane want to exit but the person on the outside lane does not exit at the first exit? The inside car will hit the outside car. I thought that the outside car always exited at the first exit.

The roundabouts are fine the way they are. Generally I find that if people here in the villages actually knew how to drive in them there would be fewer problems. Most people do not seem to know the difference between the word "yield" and "stop".

I've lived in The Villages for a little over one year and I have never heard one disparaging word concerning the roundabouts except on TOTV ???

Maybe we need special "opt in" forums for dog poop and roundabout, like the political forum. :laugh::laugh:

I think the traffic circles are GREAT here in The Villages....there would be more "fender benders" if we had all stop signs, and even worse would be stop lights at all the entrances. everything goes quite smoothly if people just wouldn't try to "beat the other guy out" and turn signals help too.

a little patience and consideration is all the drivers need.

As an example, I was on Morse yesterday driving a nice 36-38mp( I know over the speed limit) but it seemed like I was standing still.....so many cars ZOOMED by me!

then when they got to the traffic circles, they either had to stop or sped up to get through.

I had to chuckle... In another thread, you talked about being in England, so I know you've driven in "real" roundabouts. The roundabouts in TV are childs play, compared to European roundabouts and especially the ones in England... I'm sure you'd agree.
