Plantation shutters vs curtains/drapes??
If you had to do it again, would you install plantation shutters or drapes on the windows? Not sure which way to go. The shutters look so neat and clean while the drapes give color. I also read that the shutters keep out a lot of light. Is it too dark with the shutters? I'm sure they help with keeping the heat out as well. What is the cost of shutters vs curtains? Thanks for your advice again.

Love my plantation shutters!
I love my plantation shutters. As far as light you can have as much or as little as you like. Depends on how much you close the bottoms/tops. I used Rick at 48 Hours for ours. It takes about a month after he measures them.

The shutters do look beautiful. The only disadvantage I know of is that if you put sliding ones on the sliding glass doors (looks great), half of the glass is always covered and blocked if you slide one over to bare one of the doors.

I love my Plantation Shutters and would do it again. Like the look of them and how you can have part of them open and still have privacy. I love them on my door wall too so the look is consistent all through the house.

Plantation shutters are wood or wood-like shutters that fit on the interior of windows and the "slats" can be opened or closed to modify light. Most can be thrown back like shutters and allow the windows to be totally uncovered. They are pretty, and also add a layer of heat or cold resistance against the window.
I am sorry we didn't choose them in some of our rooms now. Rick at 48 hour blinds is my choice to install them. We were there to meet him and let him in when our friend Swimdawg had her shutters installed. They look BEAUTIFUL! |
Love my shutters too...even the sliders. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I too used 48 hour blinds.

I knew when I bought my house 4 yrs. ago that I wanted Plantation Shutters throughout. I've lived in a lot of houses and find draperies to give a heavy feeling and quickly become dusty and need cleaning. Shutters give a sense of airiness and actually bring in more light than curtains based on how much you have them opened or closed. I have not regretted my decision to use Plantation Shutters for one minute.

I've already ordered my shutters from Rick at 48 Hour! We are doing the whole house!

why can't we get shutters when we pick the house?
I just wondered, why couldn't you order the shutters at the time we build the house? They have the window measurements from the plans and it's not like they haven't put shutters in all of the models before? Why wait until after the house is built?

No shutters. |
I know that's the choice but why wouldn't you order them at the time you spec out the house instead of waiting until it's built? That way the day you move in the shutters can be installed by 48 hour Blinds. You could consult with the blind people after you get done with the designers. Just wondering....

Not all windows are the same. Rick does measure your windows as the house is being built and he will put them in the day you close. I contracted with Rick last month. He has been in my home as they were building the home to measure the windows to assure there is a proper fit. The day I close, he or his team will come to my home and install them. Rick does not work for The Villages, so you wouldn't order them through them. Does that answer your question? |
approximate cost to shutter the entire house?
