Must Speak English?

I guess in Santorum's perfect world, English needs to be the dominate language.

Puerto Ricans slam Santorum for saying the territory should adopt English if it wants statehood - Election 2012 - The Washington Post

I think it was foolish to say so because it would hurt his campaign. Howeverthe dominant language in the world not just his world is fact.
English is the language of business. It has been for decades. If you want to do business you do business in English. There is nothing wrong with that.

There was a time when French was the predominant language of diplomacy.

For what reason would you teach your children Spanish if you were not Spanish. About the only thing that is good for is touring the Caribbean or giving instructions to your gardener or maid.

Just an opinion.

Doubt if English was the dominant language in some territories that became States in the past. Like Texas in 1845, for instance.

Suppose there were a lot of Spanish speakers in California in 1850 as well.

Open your mind a bit. How about becoming fluent in Spanish as a precursor to teaching English to Spanish speaking students.

Statements like the above explain why only 14% of hispanics support republicans. IMHO

We forget the wisdom of our fathers and descend into the Tower of Babel.

English is still the dominant language of world business; get with the program, or remain obscure.

BUT Richie...as JANMCN always says or infers...it is ALL about the political party....as she said, only 14% support the Republicans because of this and THAT...THE VOTE...is the single most important thing.

How shallow of you Richie ~!!

The real reason only 14% of the Hispanics support the Republicans is because the Republicans want all of them to have a valid ID to vote.

Guest 03-17-2012 09:48 AM

So because English is the business language of the world, our Government would require that language? Isn't that a bit too much government for true conservatives?

Or it could be that republicans voted against "The Violence Against Women Act".

What does one have to do with the other? How does only 14% Hispanics vote for Republicans turn into The Violence Against Women Act? Two entirely different subjects

It's as inane as your remark about hispanics having voter ID.

The point is this, you can not have a united country without a single language and single currency. As one said, why learn Spanish, you only need it to talk to your gardener. That alone should speak for the veracity of Rick Santorum's statement. He wants the people to be able to get a better job than gardener.

The educated Puerto Rician professonals want their children to be fluent in American English so they can make something of themselves.

So we conquer and change the culture. That name you use is appropriate.

You posted that only 14% of Hispanics liked Republicans; all I did was supply a reason
