Publix earns an F- for passover!!!
 

They set up a little display of passover foods (pitiful collection) and didn't bother to even order Matzoh the unleavened bread that is central to the holiday, they had a couple of old boxes in the ethnic aisle...so publix, you can kiss my posterior you just lost my business.

running out of it I could understand, they didn't even give it any thought, so I won't give any thought to shopping there. I don't believe cellophane grass is central to the Easter holiday while unleavened bread is central to passover.

I tried it once but didn't inhale!

It is extremely easy to make your own matzoh and it tastes so much better when it is fresh rather than out of a box.

The Fresh Market also had an excellent supply of Passover foods.

yes that is true, I have made my own in the past but was cooking quite a bit for the holiday and that just wasn't an option this time. Yes the other grocers here didn't make the same 'mistake'.

looney, that must have been very frustrating and I'm glad you were able to find it at the other stores. This year, some very good friends invited us to Seder and it was very enjoyable and interesting. It was the first time we had ever celebrated the Passover and as a Christian it brought to life the things I learned while studying the Old Testament. When we talk with our friends, we talk about the things we have in common and we respect each other's beliefs even though he refuses to call my 'Hanukkah' bush a Christmas tree :)

I for one love Publix -- if they stopped selling Christmas thing I would still shop there - thats the difference between you and me -- no food for Ramadan either (fasting) :smiley: no food for Yom Kupper either :smiley:

I do not work for Publix, but I would think they base their stocking of shelves on the demographics of the area. There is probably a much larger selection of Passover items in other parts of Florida. And they probably look at what sold in past years. Perhaps communicating your unhappiness to Publix HQ would help solve this problem in the future.

The Publix on Bella Vista and 441 had plenty of matzo a week before the holiday started, with a display of Manischewitz, Streits, and another brand from Israel (don't remember the brand). They also had gefilte fish, horseradish, and Manischewitz matzo ball soup mix displayed.

The selection was not as great as I was accustomed to in south Florida, but a whole lot better than what we had on our little island in Panama (before moving to TV), where we had to have matzo flown in from a Chabad house in Panama City. After living for several years on a remote island in a predominately Catholic country, it seemed like I had plenty of matzo available for my needs here.

If the store had a Passover section, it seems odd that there was never any Matzah in this section. Which Publix location was it? Also, how do you know for certain that they did not run out? Did you ask the store manager? If so, what response did you get?

Janmcm makes a very good point about stores needing to stock based on anticipated demand; also that the store cannot correct a problem if it is not brought to their attention.

I am sorry that the experience put a damper on your holiday and hope it was otherwise a blessing.

The Publix at Colony Plaza had a large central island adjacent to the floral dept. that was abundantly stocked and dedicated to Passover foods for two weeks prior to Passover. (at least each time I visited.)
This was in addition to the dedicated aisle the store always has for various ethnic foods.
We visited Publix again last Saturday, and the central display was still there, but as expected, pretty much emptied by then. They still had some Matzoh, though.
