Golf with deafining noise from polo match

I choose not to goto the free polo match Friday, I choose to play golf at 4:00 at Glenview CC paid $33 and had to listen to the polo match anyway. It was deafining and could not consentrate. How do people live there and put up with this noise. Don't even think of putting your house up for sale during polo season. How can the Villages do this to these poor people. Something must be done to stop the noise.

I would assume that if one buys a house near a large area such as the Polo Field, one assumes there will be noise at some time. It's the same for those who buy near a Rec center...you're going to hear pickleball, tennis, people in the pool. If you buy near a town square....you're going to listen to music and the din of crowds just about every night.

I can understand that it was frustrating for you. Maybe it's better not to plan on playing golf when polo is being played. It's not a long season and soon, relative peace and quiet will once again return.

Is this noise everyday? How many hours a day?

Sound travels. When you are actually at the stadium, there are many times, when you can't even hear the announcer. There are two polo seasons (each lasts 10 weeks) Games are normally played on Fridays and Sundays (2 games per day) Each games lasts about 90 minutes. The current season goes til the end of May. This is some of the BEST entertainment. Fridays are FREE. Where else can you spend a day outside, in the beautiful sunshine, watch a sporting event-- FOR FREE? Come on down and enjoy the games. They also have food and drinks available for purchase.

I haven't had my coffee yet so maybe my kindness button isn't on.

There aren't THAT many horses in a polo match to have the sound of thundering hooves.

The announcer on the Public Address System can be heard sometimes at our village which isn't that close because of the way the wind sometimes blows.

The cheers of the crowd of people sitting in the sun enjoying themselves is the other thing that comes to mind. We can hear that from the high school on the wind sometimes on a Friday night.

It seems like the sounds of people living and enjoying themselves.

A cemetery is usually very quiet.

You're right, Gracie. When you're at the stadium, it's the sounds of the fans cheering, chatting, and enjoying themselves that keeps us from hearing the announcer. There are 8 players(4 per team) on horses as well as 2 umpires on horses. So, 10 horses at a time thundering up the field. Each player brings 6-8 horses to a match, so there are usually about 50 horses total per game. It's great fun ! Everyone should come out and see for themselves.

gracie - sounds to me like charlie hasn't had whatever he uses to get his kindness turned on!

his post is similar to the complaints of many here in central nj who have moved near a small executive airport and want the flights to stop; or the folks who moved near the auto racing tracks and want to shut them down! those folks crack me up! they knew those facilities were there when they moved in - and they had the gall to even think that they could change local life because it just was not convenient for them!! bwa-ha-ha!

it's unfortunate that charlie cannot appreciate the sounds of enjoyment that eminate from the polo field!

The polo grounds were there before the homes were built. The Villages has done nothing to these poor people, why do you assume they are poor?
Just what do you propose should be done to stop the noise?
Sorry, you are alone on this issue...............

I LOVE hearing the noise from Polo ! When we play tennis at Saddlebrook on Sundays we hear all the sounds and can catch a peak at the horses sometimes, it is a very exciting game to play and watch and the announcer makes it fun, love the music !

Reminds me of folks in the midwest who want to live in "the country" (think farms!) and then get ALL up in arms about the farm smells. The farms generally have been there for a very long time and are what provide in some way for our economy and well-being (think food...which doesn't grow in the store).

We can hear the announcer and the cheerleaders at football games at the HS. Love the sound of life!

seems like you are like the 'maytag repairman' on this!

Some people are just miserable. Reminds me of the person that builds on a golf course and then complains that there are balls on his lawn! There is one man who lives across from Havana who constantly complains about the music noise. Get a life folks. Other people are certainly enjoying theirs!

army one 04-28-2012 01:11 PM

Some people only are happy is when they have something to complain about. I'll bet they can't even tell us for sure if the glass if half full or half empty.
