Small cat with purple collar in drain
There is a small black and brown cat with a purple collar in the drain near 2198 Markridge Loop in The Village of Pennecamp. The fire dept has been here several times trying to rescue it with no luck. Anyone missing a cat (possibly a kitten)? There are some grandchildren on the street that are very upset over the situation and are sending food down to it. They've tried lowering a sheet for it to climb up, traps have failed. Hopefully someone will see this and pass it on and an owner can be found to coax it out.

This is a sad thing....another reason for folks to follow the law and keep their cats inside. Unless, this was a case of someone just dropping off their animal to get rid of it! I hope someone can help the poor little thing out of there.

So, sad. I hope they get the kitten out and that they find the owners. At least I would assume it had owners since you said it was wearing a collar. Keep us posted.

Sad to hear. Hope it is rescued soon.

Could a small basket be lowered (if there is enough room)? Maybe one could put a soft wash cloth or towel in it and some food. Let the Villages radio station know and put posters at the mail boxes to find the owner.

At least in Sumter County, there is no law that says cats must be confined indoors. What county has such a law? Sumter County, FL - Official Website - Ordinance Highlights

Thanks for clarifying what you meant. I guess when you mentioned "law" I was surprised that I might have missed something so I did the research. And, just to be sure, I also just checked our covenants and didn't see anything restricting them in TV. Never having owned a cat over the years, I just thought they always had the right to roam-not like dogs at all.

is the kitty still in the drain>? the basket lowered down with food in it sounds like a great idea hopefully he won't get scared and jump out..depending on how small the kitty is..i have done this before with a kitty in a deep hole..A long stick with lots of duct take on it sticky side out of course...lower it down and make sure you get a good deal of hair involved with the tape and gently pull it up..worked like a charm..another 1001 uses for duct tape! please let us know how the kitty fairs today...

Hope kitty is out safe. What kind of a pipe is it? A drainage one and is it vertical or horizontal? Babbs has a good idea if the kitten would be light enough.
We are supposed to keep cats indoors here in TV. Dogs have to be on a leash and cats have to be indoors. BUT they can sure be sneaky if they want OUT. |
kitty in the hole
makes me want to run right over there and get that kitty out...lol poor little baby I sure hope it's out by now..
 |
What is the distance from the opening to the kitty? How about a crabbing net with a long handle? (if you can find one around here)

I hate it when I see cats running free. Yesterday while leaving Colony Plaza there was a dead kitten on Morse Blvd. I don't think it was a feral cat but could have been. In any case if I had a cat I would be very protective of him (or her). I certainly wouldn't let it run free.

In The Villages, dogs in their own yards are not required to be on a leash; cats are not required to be kept indoors or on a leash at any time.
