Venting Rant...Get Golf Etiquette

How annoyed should one be when playing a championship course, and the group behind you decides to jump immediately ahead of you (next hole) and causes you to stop and wait for them on following hole?

We had just this happen on Lopez (Torri Pines) the other night; we were chipping up to 1st green when folks behind us decided to jump up to #2 (par 3). By the time we got to #2 tee they were gone, but not so at #3 - we had to wait at least 10 minutes for them to clear the green. I believe they smartened up after #3 and skipped #4, cause we never saw them again.

Ambassadors have previously told us when situations arose requiring a "play-through"...should always move ahead 2 full holes so as not to impact players just passed.

PS. we were 5:00 group, with no one ahead of us and had kept a good pace all through Ashley and into Torri, seeing no one behind us on Ashley 7, 8 or 9. There...venting complete.

How did you have a hole in front of you open on the 1st hole of play? Could it be that you were too slow? Not judging, just wondering.

Because the 5 PM group is the first group of evening play. They had finished the first 9 and were going to the next nine so it would have been about 7 PMish. No one can be starting at that time who would be just ahead of you as the last starting time is well before that.

They knew by watching your group that they would be playing faster than you, and were hoping to get 18 in before it got dark, so they skipped ahead. I wouldn't take offense. Then they caught up to a group in front of you, which held them up, and ultimately held you up for one hole, and so they skipped ahead of that group as well.

Sounds like SUPER READY GOLF; but not much fun!

Happens a lot when folks are too slow and less experienced! Don't take offense!

Uhhh no...there was no one ahead of us...until they jumped a hole ahead of us and played #2, my point is, they should have skipped #2 and moved to #3 and all would have worked out just swell. Our pace of play was fine, unlike theirs - which must have been 20 minutes plus on the 3rd hole (not quite Super-Ready golf). Regardless, was looking for comments on playing through (jumping ahead a single hole) and then holding back the group you just passed? When you play through, simple courtesy says, you should demonstrate an awareness for those behind you. This happened to us on De La Vista a few weeks back as well, where a single golfer jumped ahead of us on #7, as we were playing #6. He proceded to play several balls all the way to the green - of course holding us up on the #7 tee for over 10 minutes. C'mon folks get some golf courtesy, learn golf etiquette. Fortunately running into these knuckleheads on the courses seems to be the exception.

Unless I am given permission; once I jump ahead of a group, I do so with the understanding that the group I jumped ahead of will NEVER be held up by me even if I have to pick up.

As far as what happened at De La Vista, I can only say that person would be very aware of how I felt :evil6:.

I try my best to never hold someone up on either an executive or championship course but especially on a championship course. I too pick up my ball and move on. When playing with "strangers" who are very slow, I've picked up my ball (never making a comment) even when I'm not the one slowing up the foursome. Funny, how that "speeds" up everybody! Unless you are in a tournament who cares? If you are posting handicap scores----give yourself a "fair" score and move on. My main goal, given my talent and age, HAVE SOME FUN!

I think you'll see more of this in the evening when people are rushing to get their game in before dark. I see alot of skipping holes and replaying the same hole, etc. in the evening. It doesn't bother me as I figure I wouldn't get in 9 holes anyhow. I think it is good to make sure you never hold up those behind you at any time if you can help it.

Playing golf here since 2001, never had anybody "jump a hole" while playing. Here you have had it happen twice in the recent past..............?? Pace of play?

Jumping ahead, as you describe it, is rude and disrespectful. No real golfer with more than half a brain would do this. If anyone did it to me I would hit into them at every opportunity as they have no right to be ahead of me. Hopefully, in this situation, my partners and I would be bigger than the jerks who cut in ahead of us.
