Are we too young for TV!!
Are we to young to be here in TV or any retirement community? My wife and I have discussed this topic many times, I am 53 and she is a little older both retired, a job is not required. I would like to here from others.

nope.... In our neighborhood, folks range in age from early 50s to mid 70s

55 and 61 and moving full time in November. What is too young? Enjoying life in a beautiful community with everything you need in reach of a golf cart ride. Great people, sunshine, activities and music and friendship. Ageless.

Jane032657 is right. We're mid-50's and have neighbors from age 49 thru about 85, and the oldest ones are the liveliest. And most are comfortable with themselves......nothing to prove.
Just nice people who come running if you ask if anybody has ____ or can do ____ for you. It's like being surrounded by your favorite relatives (who mind their own business, but are there for you in a heartbeat if you need help). This is the America we grew up in. Neighborly, law-abiding, self-disciplined with amazing experiences, and living within our means. |

I'm in late 50's and sometimes it is hard to be in TV (I know that's not the PC thing to say around here). Trying to find places that play 70's or 80's music on consistent basis is tough. Some of the mentality of the older generations (while they are active people) gets tedious at times and the constant discussions about medical issues gets very boring. Not having a daily paper that reports ALL the news, not just 'happy' junk is disappointing.
But that said, for outside activities you can't beat TV. |

Though by age I am old enough for TV I wonder if I am able to have the energy to maintain the lifestyle. I'm giving it all I got.....

Political correctness? Kindness? Some things are better left unsaid. Do you care that you have hurt the feelings of a lot of nice folks? Do you know that you too will join the ranks of the people you are talking about and someone could/will say that to you and even at THAT age, it will hurt your heart? Do you know that the mentality of people older than you probably is wisdom? Did you know that most people who live here are more interested in what is happening now in the world rather than if the music they hear is in the 70's and 80's? Did you have any idea when you moved to an over 55 community that most folks would be over 55? Some a little over 55 and some a lot over 55? I am constantly surprised when I look around to see so many old people. Then I remember. My outsides look old too. It is my insides that are 16. I will probably come back shortly and delete this, but I just had to say it. Boy Howdy! And...I may have hurt your feelings, and I am sorry if I did. None of us can HELP growing older. It just happened while we were doing more important things. Just like you can't help being younger. It will correct itself eventually. |
Too young to retire

We were both fortunate, had great jobs, were compensated very well for working, loved our life in the snow belt and thought we would stay there for the rest of our lives. Then, out of the blue, we were both offered retirement packages we could not refuse and realized very quickly we could not do winter without working, so we rapidly found ourselves enjoying every day in TV. We have been able to live our lives to the fullest both working and retiring. |
