It Is An Easy Choice
Here are some but not all of the reasons why I believe Obama has failed. The pro Obama Super PAC blamed Mitt Romney for the death of a woman who died of cancer. This attack went over the line. There are some that beleive Obama had a part in that ad but whether he did or did not Obama has yet to rebuke that attack and his lack of doing so brings into question just how low he will go to get re-elected. It further would be to his benefit because the ad makes Obama look very weak and will damage his likability ratings. We like gunslingers but we reject mudslingers. Likewise it is believed that Obama encouraged Harry Reid to tell his story, without any susbstantive proof that a deep throat character swears that Romney didn't pay taxes for 10 years. Obama's Secretary of State under his direction guidance and polices is repeatedly shown cutting a rug tossing back a beer showing casing the people to people diplomacy demonsrates her moral obtuseness. While the Syrian Irnian, etc people are under attack she dances away. This trivalizes foreign policy making America look like well the back end of a horse. Obama makes claim that by taxing the rich we can tax our way out of our debt crisis. He cast Romney as a rich guy protecting the rich and that his economic policiesd are exactly what got us into trouble in the first place. Well he mischaracterizes why we got into this problem in the first place but why rehash the the past, a past well known by all. To counter Obama claims the Tax Reform Act of 1986 by the Reagan Adminsitration increased GDP by over a trillion dollars and in todays economic environment would translate in inceasing the wealth of the nation by 7 million dollars. Obama has turned the immigration issue to be one of civil rights. Can illegal aliens have civil rights (racial profiling)? Certainly they are entitled to human rights and we all support that cause. Obama tried to beat to death the Immagration Policy enacted by Arizona . Consider that the reason New York city dramatically reduced its crime rate the police took a proactive approach and were expected to intervene anytime they observed anyone looking suspicious which included their right to frisk a suspect. At that time New York was plagued by black and hispanic gangs. They cleaned up many of these areas and guess what the areas were rebuilt and people could live without fear. Our economy is three years post recession and we are in a worse place than when we started. It is an easy choice this November and I am betting that Americans want the country to return to those ideals that kept us safe and strong for so long |

When a vulture capitalist takes over a company like this, it's not just the employees and their families that suffer, but also the vendors and all the businesses that these employees frequented. It's doubtful that many of these former employees will be voting for Mitt Romney. This ad that you speak of has yet to air or any TV station, only on the internet. I find the ad very powerful. Criticizing Secretary Clinton for letting her hair down and enjoying herself after the remarkable job she has been doing for the past 3.5 years is beyond the pale. |
It is an easy choice...
...vote Obama/Biden.

I think you got a bit ahead of yourself on Ms Clinton. If what you stated was SAID OR HINTED AT, I would agree with you totally, but you changed what he said and meant in a very meaningful manner ! |

The US Supreme Court calls it "Free Speech". |
what some of us know is "corporate raiders" do not just take over a company on their own to close it.
It doesn't matter how long you worked there if you were not one of the officers of the company or a board member or a member of the "corporate raider" you do not know the real story. But since we are in a good mood let's just assume you are correct. How does that specific instance allow you to make a general condemnation of a business most people have no idea how they do what they do and why they are there, brought in by who? How many of these venture capitalists do you personally know of? About? How many businesses did they in fact close down and sell VS the businesses they fixed that kept more than 80% of their workforce and the company was worth more than when they started. Some need to find a more valid reason to be negative about Romneys past participation as a venture capitalist. btk |

Sure...I know all about "Free Speech". I practice it on a daily basis. I just find it very hard to understand how a seemingly intelligent person would find 60 seconds of complete falsehoods "powerful"...that's all. |
I would put Mitt Romney in the same vulture grouping as Carl Icahn and Frank Lorenzo. All became very rich at the expense of the working class.
Mitt is out of touch with middle America. |

Rmoney and his pals bought this company - squeezed every last penny out of out - lined their pockets with millions of dollars - the company (that had been in business for over 100 years) was forced to declare bankruptcy - everyone lost their jobs - and insurance. The events are well documented, if you wish to fill in the slimy details. |
HERE, after doing some checking and verifying are the SLIMY DETAILS as you refer to them.
After reading this does it not make all you folks proud of your President for allowing this kind of insinuation go over public airways ! This is despicably campaigning at best. This is actually embarassing to think that the President would allow this and that folks on here area jumping on the bandwagon. 1993 Bain buys the GST mill. At this time the steel industry was on its death bed unable to compete with foreign and this plant was dying. This plant at its best employed 4500 and by the late 80's was down to 1000. ARMCO who owned the plant had decided that they either sell it or close it down as it was antiquated and needed lots of work. ARMCO had no money to invest and thus in stepped Bain Bain and some other investors bought the plant for 80 million. They renamed it GS Tech and put another 100 million into moderenization Things go better for the company 1994 Things going so well they can pay a divedend Late 1990s The late 1990s saw a new outpouring of cheap steel from elsewhere around the globe. The Asian financial crisis walloped the mining industry, cutting demand for GST products. The price of GST's electricity and natural gas skyrocketed. The union dug in, refusing to make concessions. By April 1997, it was on strike, shooting bottle rockets at guards. Labor costs spiked, and by 1999 GSI was reporting $53 million in net losses. 1999 (EARLY) Romney leaves Bain Capital 2001 GST Steel goes bankrupt NOTE...At the time, GST’s union blamed the company’s bankruptcy on the political class, for failing to hamstring imports. “We can’t compete against the steel imports that are being sold under cost,” said the president of GST’s union in 2001. “Our pleas fell on deaf ears in the political arena.” The Bush administration would ultimately slap on giant tariffs. The bankruptcies were led by unionized companies that, like airlines and textiles and Detroit, had negotiated pay and benefits that helped drive their employers under. 2006 The woman in the ad dies of cancer. Having had insurance from the day her husband was out of work until she died. The company that this particular mill was under GS Industries, employed 3,500 and that the Kansas City plant (with 750 workers) was the only one shuttered. Other plants were bought and operate today. Nor does it mention Bain’s other steel investment in the early 1990s, in an Indiana start-up called Steel Dynamics. The firm touts innovative technology and a nonunion workforce. It today reports $6.3 billion in revenue—25 times what it claimed in its 1996 IPO—and employs 6,000. "It features B.C. Huselton, a former vice president at the company, defending Bain's investment in GST Steel as more helpful than hurtful. Huselton says he felt compelled to come forward in response to Democratic attacks: “I held my tongue while this was all going on, and I finally said, ‘I can’t take this anymore.’ We did a lot of good work there and somebody needs to know this.” "Did it all work out? No. Did we make a difference? I think we made a big difference," he says. "There’s this vampire story that Bain comes in and shows its teeth and sucks the blood out of the operation. It was really entirely the opposite of that. We went looking for a blood donor." Strassel: Vampire Capitalism? Your links at the bottom didn't translate in your "copy and pasting" to the thread you posted, and you might want to repost these links in your new GST tread.
I know you researched and wrote this excellent piece mostly for your own edification, but I don't know if I would have done all the same work to answer the poster who spurred it. Nice bit of work, which should shut up the puppets on this, but sadly we know it won't. |
1999 (EARLY) Romney leaves Bain Capital <---- Stopped reading when I got to this part. That is when I was certain the entire posting was rubbish.
Unlike you, I will not attempt to paraphrase - instead you can choose to educate yourself - or not.... When did Romney leave Bain? (Updated) - POLITICO.com It is pretty obvious why Rmoney refuses to release his returns. |
