Proud to be from OHIO!
Like many other villagers I am from Ohio. Ohio IS the center of the universe and the place where people still smile at each other, stop at STOP signs, don't save chairs and stop so you can walk in front of them.
Ohio is called the Cradle of Colleges and folks from my family stand and cheer for Ohio State, Miami University, Ohio University, University of Cincinnati, Case Western, Kent State, and University of Toledo. Ohio is known for it's hard working and ethical people, immigrants from Germany and many other lands, it's farms and farmers, it's industry and last but not least it's cultural facilities. Ohio has the number one heart hospital in The U.S., The Cleveland Clinic and a huge and enthusiatic bunch of football fans. If you are from Ohio, stand up and tell us! I am not from Ohio but I have lived here over 30 years (along with a couples of months a year in TV). I am from the dreaded state "up north" but I must say that Ohio is everything that Gracie has said and more, it is a great place to live! I love the drive from the Marion area through Amish country and seeing the Amish folks with their horse drawn buggies and their way of life, I love the drive around the beauty of Columbus and their OSU spirit. But my favorite place is Cincinnati with its bridges, the river, duck boat tours, great resturaunts, etc.

Y'all need to get it right: "Say it with me now..........AHIA!!" :1rotfl:
:icon_wink: Bill  (from Ahia) |
My husband and I were raised in Cincinnati, but I have lived elsewhere all our married life. We love goetta, Graeter's ice cream, Noble Roman's Pizza, Skyline Chili, and all of the neighborhood bakeries! Our favorite was north College hill bakery and we still go there every time we get a chance!

I visit long time friends in Waynesville and Wilmington and have cousins in Cincy.
I thought about getting a place there for summer residence (practicing to be a snowbird) since I like the area but this year it was hotter there than Florida. What's a person to do? PS. If Bill can learn to say Y'all, then I can learn to say Ahia. |
Had a good friend from Ohio, Cheryl Z., while I was at the University of Denver who had gone to Ohio State U to study librarianship. She was getting a M.A. in Librarianship and Information Management the same time I was. Then she became a librarian for various libraries on U.S. bases. She did have time to visit me when I worked in the SF Bay Area after I left Denver.
We have a lot of neighbors here in the Villages who hail from Ohio. Very nice people. |
I'm 50 miles away..does that count? I love driving through Dayton because the art museum area looks so cool..also absolutely love Cincinnati. I do have a question however, I just don't get the whole Skyline chili thing. We stopped there once and I'm hoping this wasn't representative of all the Skylines..we thought it was terrible..watered down. Maybe I'll give it another chance on our way down. So there..from your neighbor in the north, I do love Ohio..except for their state police, Skyline chili and college football team.:D (they do have really nice people down there though!)

We are a couple of Buckeye's, born, raised and still here about five months. Hard to give up living on Lake Erie, esp. June through September. Our picture is just a normal summer sunset of our back yard.

Lived and worked for the last 15 years in Toledo, a great "small" town with lots of big city amenities including our great minor league baseball team The Toledo Mudhens, a great museum, a top ranked zoo, and many great restaurants like Matthews (sadly, now gone) and Fifi's. However, as many people who live near a great lake know, winter can be prozac season with month after month of gray and dreary weather. But we get through the winters by rooting for the Toledo Rockets and the Bowling Green Falcons.

And Ohio has the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland!

Does living in Cleveland for a year count? I'll stand-up for Ahia.
Pro football's Hall of Fame in Canton. |
