Eeeeekkkk, love bugs are horrible!!!

I hate this month... Sept 10 and we are already inundated with love bugs. They were even INSIDE Publix on the food and carts - yuck!! We still have another few weeks to go in Sept. This is going to be an awful season.

A damp dryer sheet will clean the lovebug residue off if you get it soon after it happens.

Had to drive out past the Leesburg airport today and the lovebugs were everywhere.

Stopped at Publix on way home, also saw them in the store.

I'll be driving the motorhome in a few days, you can't imagine the mess they make on the front end.

So exactly how long do they love in the fall? It seemed protracted in the spring.

What I read is they start in late August and last through September. They are everywhere and horrible. Good news is they settle down at dusk, so if they really creep you out stay in all day and come out at dusk. Anyone know exactly what their purpose is other than creating havoc????

Love bug larvae feed on decaying vegetation; so, they do have an ecological role. Lovebug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

twice a year, sometimes worse than others and they're gone soon enough.
I think their purpose is to procreate!

DandyGirl 09-10-2012 07:53 PM

Kathie,

What you are seeing are tiny little snowbirbs who want to return early. They should know " Not till December" :cryin2:
