Trailer Behind Golf Cart?
 

My husband and I will be moving to The Villages next summer. We have a Saint Bernard who will be making the move with us. We would like to be able to transport him in our golf cart (we have not purchased a cart yet, but we know that we will).

We really can't imagine him riding comfortably on the seat and would prefer to have some sort of trailer to put his crate on that we can pull behind us.

Has anyone else ever done this? We know it sounds sort of strange, but he is a gentle giant and the son we never had (hahaha...we have 3 daughters).

We would just like to be able to take him safely and comfortably with us in our cart from time to time. Thanks for your input/advice!

Maybe buy a 4-seat gas cart and have one of you ride with the dog in the back

We just got a 4 seater (rear seat faces backwards) and I remember the sales person telling us there was some kind of a platform attachment that could go over the rear seat. We got the golf bag attachment.

Thanks for your quick responses...we were looking more along the lines of pulling a trailer behind us rather than a backseat platform because we think it would be easier for our big boy to get in and out of...it seems quite a big leap for him to be able to get up on a platform -- and there's ABSOLUTELY no way I could lift him! Hahaha! Just the mental picture alone of me doing that cracks me up!

I'll wait for some more (hopefully) responses...but again, thanks for your quick replies!

The golf course maintenance people here at Tellico Village (TN) have gas powered carts and pull small low to the ground trailers with their equipment. We have some steep hills on our courses and they have no trouble getting around. I'll bet there is someone out there who makes a small lightweight golf cart trailer that would accomodate the "Big Boy" riding in style:024:

Do you plan to attach and unattach the trailer as needed? I could see parking being an issue and possibly garage space. Would another option be to buy a 4-seater, remove the back seats and put his crate on the back floor board? Just a thought.

I would buy a regular golf cart and then modify the rear area with an extra large floor board area. Maybe just a piece of plywood painted the same color as the cart and bolted to the rear floor area where the golf bags usually sit. Something that you could also enclose with a small fence/rope to keep him there while traveling. Figure out how many square feet he needs, then look at this type modification to that area of the cart. I think you could do it so it looked good, worked out for golf as well and regular use. Maybe hinge it in the middle so it folds up out of the way when not needed.

Contact Carts and Clubs in Ocala - they are great to work with and may be able to modify for you.

I've seen just what you are looking for. A couple of carts around the villages have trailers on them. Carrying tools for handymen maybe.

You already got some great ideas of what to do trailerwise, but I want a promise to meet your big boy. I love Saints!!!! Was raised with one and he was my horse, brother, babysitter, crying towel and total protector.

Your description fits our Cooper to a T: horse, brother, babysitter, crying towel and total protector. Ours is pretty stupid...but I mean that in the most lovable way possible.
