Hey, I voted today and the lines weren't bad at all in my area. I voted at Paradise Recreation Center on the historic side. This isn't intended to be a political discussion. Just a shout-out and high five to each other for exercising our Constitutional right and God given right to speak out by casting a ballot. May the best man win.

I also voted at the Paradise Rec Center. I got there about 11:15 and there were about six booths available. I was in and out in ten minutes.

What is with all the stuff going on down south with the long lines. We've had early voting for what? two weeks now? and there are still long lines? Do they just not have enough polling places in Broward and Dade?

Early voting was cut back from 14 days to eight days. The same problems existed in 2008, so they solved the problem by cutting the number of days. That's like saying there's too much traffic on 441, so let's make it a two lane road.

It's unbelievable the shenanigans that are going on today. In PA, voters are being asked for ID even though the courts disallowed that law. Also in PA, votes for one candidate were being given to the other candidate before they corrected the problem.

In Florida, people are being robocalled and told to vote on Wednesday, including former Gov Charlie Crist's wife. At least it will soon be over, although NJ residents are now being allowed to vote until Friday. The people involved in this chicanery need to be removed from office.

Lines to vote

A Villager posted on facebook that he waited 45 min on line to vote in the Villages.
Sounds like many are waiting 3 hours in other parts of Florida.
I voted absentee ballot and that works best for me.

I was at the Colony Rec Center to vote at 8:45 this morning. Tons of people there. The room was way too small for the amount of people. Lines snaking around the room. One line snaked 3 times around the room just to scan your ballot. The scanner broke right in front of me and they had us slip our ballots into a slot to be counted later. I was there for a total of two hours standing. I'm healthy and can do that. Several others could not.

Hubby went at 4:30 and voted and was back in an hour. Said the line was long to scan his ballot also. Only one scanner. I was told by someone that they had cut in half the number of polling stations from what we used to have. I wish I had voted in the early voting, but I just wasn't ready. I had to read up on the amendments. Next time I'll do that early enough to avoid all of this.

I am sitting on pins and needles - there is so much at stake.

I agree - its appalling. I really feel for working people who try to vote then go on to work - some stood in line for hours, getting to work late, losing out on their hourly wages. I did see one story about Florida. Apparently the political move of reducing early voting, which indirectly targeted Afro-Americans, has so enraged people, that they are mobilizing large caravans of people to go to the polls and vote, possibly more than would have voted had they been able to utilize early voting. In other words, the attempt at voter suppression in Florida may have backfired.

I was in and out in 15 minutes in CT. That was because I stood in the wrong line. I thought they were going by last name but it was the street you live on.
I think it helped by going at dinner time as the line was short or in my case. non existent.

I think it's important we vote.

I tried to vote at various times throughout the day but cocconut cove had 2 & 3 hour lines all day. I don't care if my dad were running for president I'm not standing in line that long. Why is it that cocconut had lines all day when others you were in &out in 10 minutes?

getdul981 11-06-2012 08:51 PM

My wife and I were in line for 2 hours at Sterling Heights. Only had one machine to scan the ballots. That was the major hold up there.

Sorry to hear that Bosoxfan. Sorry for you too Getdu19...
Various media has said "Voting in Florida is like voting in a Third World Country.

We waited an hour even with early voting. Remember, all have the option of an absentee ballot. Did that when we lived in CA, commuting and working made it difficult and many times impossible to get to the polls. Will start with absentee ballots here...saves time, frustration, stress.

Remember when it was just one day. Get over it, to many options to vote for people to complain.

You do realize we have many more people today.(Population growth) And as I learned in college level political science we use to have about 10% to 15% of eligible voters vote.
Last time I checked we had about 50% -60% of eligible voters voting and I know this election is getting a heavy turn out.

For myself I have no complaints as I hand delivered an absentee ballot. However, my mom fought tooth and nail to get the right for women to vote. Long lines are not good and most states have enough poling places and machines to avoid these lines.

:ohdear:Went to the Savanna Center @8 am. Had to wait over 1 1/2 hrs to vote. Only one machine there. Also isn't this the 21st century, do we really have to have paper ballots.
