I will be cooking at home again this year. My menu includes the traditional antipasta, regular macaroni this year, meat from the gravy, turkey, mashed potatoes, marinated tomatoes, turnips and itialian pastries, pumkin pie and chocolate mousse. I have fruit, fennel and nuts to round out the meal.
I am retiring on the 21st and will arrive in Florida for the winter on the 23rd. Happy Thanksgiving, |
Normally we would have the traditional foods but this year we will be heading to TV! It will be strange not smelling the aromas from the kitchen. We might buy a turkey leg n thigh for Friday n have a mini feast. I am thankful to have freedom to travel

My plans.....
I should have stated my plans.....I will be cooking. I usually just cook a small turkey breast for just my husband and I but this year we have invited my neighbor, who is alone, and I will make a full turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, gravy, lemon meringue pie and coconut cream pie. My favorite side dish would be the sausage stuffing!! Everyone enjoy and be safe!

Tuesday is Pie day. Apple, pumpkin, pecan and key lime. Wednesday I do all the make ahead sides I can. Sausage stuffing, garlic and cream cheese potatoes, and butternut squash. Boil about a dozen eggs for Thursday appetizer. I will also put together and get ready for the oven green beans and sweet potatoes. For dinner Wednesday evening I do a Tuscan soup and baked potato bar with seafood and steak topping plus every other normal topping as several folks arrive for the night and this works well with multiple arrival times. Thursday AM I make orange scones served with jam and clotted cream. About 9:00 AM the turkey goes in the oven. Bake the breads next. Then start working on all the appetizers and put out as done so folks can graze as others arrive. Curried deviled eggs, baked brie, shrimp, vegetables and dip, crackers with several type cheese, crab dip, and a couple others. Between 2:00 and 3:00 all other baked dishes go in the oven. Around 3:00 the turkey comes out and is covered to rest. Make the salad and gravy, everything is set up buffet style and dinner will begin about 4:00. Desserts coffee and football after.

Congrats... And safe travels. |
My wife is a hospital-based ER-NP so as she does on most holidays she will be on duty caring for the lame, the leper & the looney and I will be at home with the Macy's parade and a sandwich. We had our dinner this past Thursday on her day off. It was quite good by the way.

Sounds like mrfixit has the ultimate family holiday going on

Going to my niece's who recentley had twins, (a boy and girl). A ready made family in one shot, (perfect). I haven't seen them yet so I am looking forward to it.
I miss the old traditional Italian type Thanksivings with the antipasto, pasta dish and ham, turkey, fennel and chestnuts. My aunt would make four pies, Boston cream, lemon merigue, apple and pumpkin. The only thing I don't miss is having to take a bromo seltzer after stuffing my face. |

Lila will put a 22 lb. turkey in a roaster in the oven and cook it low and slow, while we go to our church to help prepare another turkey dinner for shut ins and other residents of the community. We will come home around 11 am and gather up our turkey and head for our daughter's home, an hour away, where our three kids, spouses, 5 of our 6 grandchildren, Lila's mother and sister and my sister and niece and her husband will give thanks for our multitude of blessings and enjoy turkey, ham, dressing, homemade noodles with gravy etc. After dinner I plan to curl up with my 22 month old twin grandsons and read some books, and maybe watch some furball as they call it, much like we did yesterday. May all of you enjoy a holiday season filled with joy and wonder. Ed

This will be our strangest Thanksgiving ever - arrived in Vegas a couple days ago for a week. Guess we'll be finding a turkey dinner cooked and served by someone else. Maybe not half bad - although I will miss the time normally spent with loved ones, and the wonderful smells and atmosphere of the holiday. Missing our traditional Thanksgiving will make be look forward to and appreciate our Christmas gathering all the more.
