Placing a tv on the lanai? Is this ok?

For those who have been lucky to already live in TV, what do I need to know about placing a tv on our future lanai? We are hoping to build an iris and we hear about people putting plat screen TV's on the lanai and we want to do that but my husband was concerned anout heat, humidity and maybe even rain overspray out there? Would live your valuable feedback.

Here's a link to a previous thread on this topic. Yes, you can do it, but your neighbors may not be happy.

I agree that the neighbors may not be happy about it. We are surrounded by neighbors with screened lanais and a TV on someone's lanai would not be a welcome sight. We are able to leave our sliding doors open in the evening and enjoy the cool breeze. We would be so disappointed if someone installed a TV.

I would guess it should a have cover when not in use and work fine.

But be mindful of the volume

Considerate neighbors will use headphones, as the noise really carries on these lanai's. Enjoy!

We have a TV on our lanai, but it is enclosed. Have not had any problems and it does get hot out there. I was concerned about noise so I turned it up and walked around the house and was suprised how the sound didn't carry. But I'm sure the fact that more than half of the screen is covered deadened the sound considerably. We literally live on the lanai and are lucky 'cause the neighbors around us are either gone or don't spend time outside like we do. So far so good.

I have also read on here that some of the folks who live in real close areas with a neighbor's lanai have problems with loud conversations, cigar, or chain smoking cigarettes. Just another good reason to consider a resale home so you can see how close the neighboring lanai will be to yours with no surprise when you move in.

Just invite your neighbors over...
We have one on our lanai, and just watched the murderer's (or accomplice) team win...when not on, we have a cover we found on the internet for about $40. It has been out on the lanai since July...no problems.

lanai tv

I have found after the last year and a half , if you moved here for our style of living you will not need a TV on your lanai,TV is in your past, you will not need one in every room,I am happy with a nice breeze ,Tom Clancy novel and happy neighbors, but that's just me,But then everyone can not live on Hopespring.......... Seems you left out one BIG CONCERN: "How will the noise affect my neighbors?"

TV on lanai

We are leaving apartment living for a house in TV soon. The things we have the hardest time with here are the sounds from our neighbors (dogs barking, TVs blaring, high heels clicking, people arguing, elevator running, phone calls ringing, etc). The thing we look forward to the most in a stand alone house in TV is Q-U-I-E-T !

It may be how you've positioned the TV as well, and how close your neighbors are. It nice that you have an enclosed lanai, which will cut down on sound.

When we first moved in we had neighbors with a tv on their lanai which was pointed right at our lanai. We didn't spend time on our lanai because we didn't like listening to their tv. I could hear it as though it was in my own living room. Finally we went over and told them how loud and annoying it was, and asked if they'd mind using headphones. They graciously, did, problem solved! I don't think they had any idea that people could hear it, and they just assumed we weren't bothered because we weren't out there.

Stolen TV

Neighbor went on a cruise in Nov. Screen was cut and 52" 3D TV stolen. They have since enclosed the Lanai with a locked door.:police:

duffysmom 01-21-2013 12:12 PM

Please do not put a TV on your open lanai if neighbors are close unless you wear headphones. It a horrible intrusion, right up there with barking dogs.:22yikes:
