thevillages.net

Can someone explain to me what this is. It isn't an ISP that is an option for HS Internet. It costs $8/mo for what? It seems to have select content. Is this the only way to get access to the content like golf reservations?

I guess I don't get it. Am I missing something. It seems like a racket.

Yes, it allows you to make golf reservations ONLINE (tho' you can use the phone system for free). And, you can apply for guest passes ONLINE rather than going to a Regional Rec Center and filling out the form.
It also gives you an e-mail account!

I've said that since day one. Why should I have to pay an additional monthly fee to make an online golf reservation? There is no other benefit that I can see.

You can apply online for guest passes without using TheVillages.net, @aln.

For me, it is worth the $8 to able to search for open times by course or by play time on either executive or championship course. I often fill in a threesome, so it is convenient to be able to quickly see what is open and where.

All the online tee time systems I have encountered in the past have been for a particular course only, so I had to log in to several sites if I wanted to compare availability at different courses.

As mentioned above, the phone system is free, so there is a no-cost alternative.

Because they're their golf courses.

The Tee Time System has nothing to do with Free Golf for life. If you choose you can walk up and hope for an open tee time.

Free golf for life, is separate from Tee Time System, like nkrifats states!!! I like the idea of getting on line, looking at tee times, choosing the best times by course or available tee time openings. (of course we play championship courses more often) So convenient, and easy to do, for the 8 bucks a month. Otherwise, you use the phone, and go through all the steps needed to try to find a tee time.

Well said PaPaLarry, We all chose to live here under the rules. So the alternative is if a person does not like what are the rules. Then feel free to leave. Find a better place with the same amenities.

It's the best $8 I spend in a month. Since I'm out of the The Villages half the time, I'm not part of a group of golfers; therefore, to be able to choose a time and course that a fourth player can fit in is perfect for me. Also, I can check out the Box Office section to see upcoming performances is another plus.

I suggest you use the phone or walk-up for a month and it might give you a new appreciation for spending the $8. By the way if you're not going to be using it for a month, you can cancel and restart when you return.

Just curious, at the exectutive golf course, where does the fees for the golf cart path use go to? Upkeep for the paths, or in Mr. Morris's pocket?

I expect that in the long run, all the expenses for the paths come out of Mr. "Morse's" pocket.

Trail fees are used to offset the costs of maintaining your golf courses.
As for using the computer or call up option, it is a personal choice and up to the individual person's needs. Like we golfers say "Different strokes for different folks"
