I've been had
Today I ate breakfast at the Steak and Shake on 466. After my meal, I went to the register to pay. A woman approx 60 yrs old and a kid (grandkid?) about 10-11 yrs old cut in front of me.
She told the cashier that she forgot her $$ at home and asked if she could write a check. After being told that they do not accept checks, the mgr agreed to take one just this time. She left to go to the car and get her checkbook. With me still standing there. the kid was holding her place in line. When she came back in she said that she didn't have her checkbook or and credit cards on her and just stood there in front of me. I just wanted to pay and get out of there cause I use a cane and can't stand for any length of time before feeling like I will fall. so i said that i would pay for her check and it was about $12. i felt bad that the waitress got nothing. As I pulled out, i was behind her on my way to get gas at the Circle K. She pulled in there too. I went in to pay for my gas and there she was paying cash for about 10 LOTTO scratch offs and a large fountain drink for the kid. :cus: |
That's horrible. What a terrible example she is for her grandson.
You were generous and should not feel bad about your kind gesture. It would have been nice to not feel taken advantage of, but you can't control what others do. Only what you do. You were a good example of generosity for the boy. Her actions in no way discredit your generosity. |

The second does not undo the first. |
Thank you, twheel, for being a good example for this unfortunate child of what good people do.

There is a growing group of people who feel compelled to scam rathter than work. Welcome to the current state of the USA. Sad.

Shame shame...
It was so kind of you to pay and it was descipable of that woman's to pull such a thing. Bad people like that pray off good people like you. Sorry for your bad experience.
|
I might have asked her if she was intending to pay me back in lotto tickets.
|
That must have been quite a shock and such poor behavior she modeled for her grand kid.
|
You did the right thing and I hopefully would have done the same. God Bless you and we all need to pray for the fake and even more for the child with her.
|
I feel so sorry for the child growing uo with that kind of example. You reacted with grace and charity. Hopefully the child will learn some life lessons from good people like you.
|
What she did was despicable and what you did was very kind.
Thank heavens for good people with kind intentions. What you did will circle around and visit you again and what she did will too. To hear someone taking advantage of a kind heart makes me both angry and sad. You are the kind of person who I hope would be my friend. |
You did the right thing even if it made you feel taken.
|
Despicable!
