I think Scotty suffers from the exact same affliction as Tiger did, in these circumstances. They're both so good at getting into that singular focus mentality, they struggle when they're "teamed" with someone else and their focus is divided. For the last 25 or so years, the USA Ryder Cup has taken the approach of emulating the Europeans. They've tried to create a "friendly, team atmosphere", with a group of guys who spend the other 50 weeks of the year, trying to kill each other. That approach hasn't seemed to work. Maybe it's time to take another approach. Bring a team of gunslingers, in the Ray Floyd, Lanny Wadkins mode and let them take no prisoners, friend or foe. It's hard to turn tigers into lions. Tigers are lone hunters, lions are pack hunters. Tigers don't change their stripes. |
Ugh!,,,, so sad

I have zero interest in watching the Ryder Cup event. The United States is a country, but Europe is not. How does this make any sense? It is a fabricated event designed to make money. The only golf tournaments I enjoy watching are individual events, like The Masters, The U.S. Open, etc.

It wasn't even on TV until 1989. No one was making money from it. |

On paper, with the individual's world rankings, we should be kicking Europe's rear, but it sure isn't turning out that way. Poor Scottie. |
I’m embarrassed by the US team. They simply can’t putt under pressure. European players like McElroy, Rahm and Fleetwood put them to shame. The Euros know how to play as a team, and have a great attitude. Maybe we have to pick our teams much differently. Why is Schauffle playing, when he’s only played two rounds of golf since July? That’s what the yakkers (announcers) said, and it shocked me. This team is not the best we could offer. I miss Tiger Woods.

Let's also not forget that our players, for the very first time, are being paid $500,000 to play in this Ryder Cup. And yeah, they were told that it is a "suggestion" that they donate $300K of it to their favorite charities, but they're under no obligation to do so and even if they did they'll still pocket $200K for a few days of work.
Whereas the Europeans are not being paid a single euro and in fact, some of them have said they themselves would pay out of their pockets to play in it. This difference by itself, might explain a lot about the passionate butt-whipping we're getting. |

Since the PGA of America had already been donating $200K to charity in a players name, I'm wondering why they just don't say that the players are now getting the $200K (instead of $500K) and the USGA would be donating the rest, just like previously? "Bradley's players have been asked to donate at least $300,000 of their total prize money to a charity of their choice."
