Watched The Masters refreshing to see such a class act. It was obvious the announcers were told to curb the Tiger talk today. Normally they would address featured groups without Tiger with such nonsense as this is where Tiger putted from today. Or other such nonsense as Tiger was above the hole here earlier today. Great to see everyone getting their due - after all they are all Masters. Here are some fun facts about the Masters which illustrates class is more important than commercial time:
Food prices are ridiculously low.
Tipping is banned.
Cell phones are prohibited at all times and cameras are not permitted during the tournament.
Only four minutes of commercials per hour are allowed during the broadcast and no blimps are allowed.
TV commentators are not allowed to refer to fans as "fans" or "spectators" They are to be called "patrons," and the rough is to be referred to as the "second cut."
Running is not allowed, unless you are a player.
Augusta is closed in the summer to keep the course in pristine shape.
You can go to jail for selling tickets. The course is insane about who it lets into the tournament and it's illegal to sell tickets within 2,700 feet of the gates.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching today. Great to see coverage of all the contenders and without the loudmouth idiots yelling "in the hole" every shot. I really hope to see the same coverage and "patron" decorum in the rest of the PGA season.

I wouldn't hold your breath. The coverage at The Masters is dictated by the club not the networks or PGA. I rate this year's coverage as the best I've ever seen. FYI the Master's website carries live broadcast all day with no commercials. If you have not seen it take a look around the website. There are some great features. Example - if you click on a picture of a player you will see their scorecards right up to the hole they are on. On the scorecard some of the holes are shaded a tan color. Click on the tan boxes and a video of the player playing that hole comes up.

The new commissioner Jay Monohan is in favor of the loud and boisterous crowds. He thinks it brings new patrons out to watch golf. I think overall this childish behavior is wearing thin with many of the pros.

It's nearly impossible to become a member at Augusta. You must be nominated by a current Augusta member, and new initiations generally aren't accepted unless someone quits or dies. The total membership hovers around 300.

Fans always line the ropes at big tournaments in hopes of getting a*signature. But this is tougher to do at Augusta. You can only try and solicit an autograph on the Washington Road side of the clubhouse, near the practice facilities.

You know those pristine white bunkers? They're actually composed of waste product from the mining of aluminum, according to Golf.com

Basically, there's this company that mines feldspar (rocks) for aluminum. This process produces waste in the form of bright, pure quartz — that's what Augusta uses.

I like the player that doesn't show his passion, by cussing, giving a club the helicopter into the lake, I like the gentle giants, phil, jordan, and freddie.

All true. In addition, at the autograph area beside the new practice putting green, there is a sign that says, "16 years old and under".

I was really surprised Thursday morning when I went to the range early and saw Gary Player warming up. He was the only player in the range. A few more came out, then Jack Nicklas appeared. After Jack's warmup session, I was walking out of the range area and went by the autograph area. There were two kids in line. He stopped and signed for both of them.

Considering what Tiger has been through, he's is having an extremely successful comeback. Six months ago it was questionable if he'd ever be able to play golf again. He's had a couple of top ten finishes and made the cut in The Masters.

Regardless of what anyone thinks about him or his personal life. Tiger Woods is one of the greatest athletes in history.

If he wins a tournament it will be the major sports story of the year. if he wins a major, it will be one of the major sports stories of the decade and maybe the century.

You don't have to like him, but you can't blame the media for covering stories that interest people. I guarantee that if he were in the hunt on Sunday, television viewership would have at least doubled. I talked to a guy that was scalping tickets on Thursday and asked what he was charging. He told me about $1,500 a day. But if Tiger was in the hunt after Friday, that price would double or triple. People want to see history being made. Tiger winning would be history. Rory becoming the sixth career grand slam winner would have been history. Phil winning at age 47 would have been history. The others, Jordan, Dustin, Justin, Patrick, Rickie et al? A win by any of them might be considered historic sometime in the future depending on what they do in their careers. If one of them goes on to win the career grand slam or have the most wins in history or beat Jack's record in the majors, then this Masters would have been historic. But, we wouldn't know that for quite a while.

In the upcoming US Open there will be three big stories. Tiger and Phil. If Tiger wins, it will be historic not only as an incredible comeback but also one closer to Jack's record and one more to the second place number. If Phil wins, it's the sixth player to achieve the career grand slam. If Patrick Reed wins then it's about the grand slam in one season.

Anything else is just another US Open. The US Open is a huge deal, but nowhere as big as any of those three possible scenarios.
