I've eaten at First Watch a few times. The last time was at their Rte 466 location and it was very disappointing.

Best eggs are easily my own kitchen - no restaurant can match, nor do I expect them to. Going out for breakfast is either about convenience or to socialize with friends. With that said, Flying Biscuit and Reveille a both “serviceable” with OK egg dishes. Service good at each.

Stu from NYC 08-12-2022 10:32 AM

We did go to reveille for the first time last weekend and did enjoy the food and service was excellent

Agree! Try the Frittata Rustica. It is amazing! The menu is not your typical breakfast fare. It is a bit more expensive but worth it.

Billy's is good too but doesn't have that really nice ambience that First Watch has. I'm referring to the First Watch on 466A.

Surprised no one mentioned Darrel’s Diners. There are several in TV. They do home fries on the griddle. Also Lil Bits Cafe on CR 101, I believe does as well.

Darrel's whips their eggs in a blender for their omelettes. So delicious and different!

Denny's does "caramelized" onions like no other. You can always depend on Denny's to get those onions right. Also.....their green peppers are cooked SOFT for their omelettes. No one around does those onions and peppers like Denny's.

Yes, but very inconsistent. We finally gave up as they like to douse everything in oil. Very good coffee, but if you order onions in potatoes, they will be burnt black. Rae Rae's

You didn't quote the poster so I have no idea which restaurant you are referring to. Thanks.

Thank you

Thank you - we did eat at Darryl’s and Reveille Cafe. Both were excellent. We are back home and working on numbers to see if we can make the move to the Villages.

Worth the drive for me.

We haven’t been in a couple of years but always enjoyed breakfast at the Cottage Inn, just South of 466. 340 S US Hwy 27 441, Lady Lake.

because they use genuine maple syrup. the real stuff, not a blend of corn syrup with food dye. you try it once & you'll never go back to the commercial junk :icon_wink:

I couldn't care less about pancakes. If I wanted pancakes, I'd go to IHOP.

Their omelets are awesome as is their toast and potatoes.

I've eaten a Reveille several times as I live close to. The food is good and the service is great. But the portions are very small.

When I go out for breakfast, I like to fill up.

Hey Pugmom, have you ever been to the Cracker Barrel (CB) opposite Lowes on 27/441. They, like the the CB in Gainesville, serve little bottles of real maple syrup with their pancakes and French toast.

So I repeat, why would you drive to CB in Gainesville when we have a perfectly acceptable CB in TV?

Billy's Cafe fits that bill no deep frying the home fries.

Dsmdlm 08-16-2022 09:11 PM

Darrell’s Diner!!!!! The best part of living in the Villages, is getting around in a golf car! First Watch is good of course. But you have to leave the bubble and you most likely have one near you back home!
Another favorite of ours is TooJays in Brownwood!!!!
Enjoy your visit!

Very true - I have been known to take my 100% pure maple syrup in a container with me to a breakfast place for. Y pancakes - that fake stuff made of corn syrup and maple flavoring is awful.

Once upon a time was able to have the real stuff but my body has told me to avoid sugar or pay an awful price

Agree on your assessment of the potatoes. They could serve 1/2 of the amount and customers would still be happy about size of the serving.

But than would have none to take home and enjoy the next day.

Reviving this thread. I had a Dr. appointment this morning and saw Billy’s next door. Hadn’t eaten yet, very good breakfast and the potatoes were the best I’ve had in the area. Too bad it’s so far from my home. Darrel’s for convenience.

TomPerry 12-06-2022 08:22 PM

Cane Garden Country Club has resumed breakfast seven days a week! Outstanding!!! Great home fries, unbelievably fluffy omelettes, unbelievably fluffy scrambled eggs, and their smoked salmon eggs Benedict are incredible !!!!! And reasonably priced too!!

Smalley 12-07-2022 07:15 PM

We enjoyed the elegant breakfast buffet served at the Brownwood Hotel and Spa this morning. They serve until 11:00. You can order continental $14 or full breakfast $22. There is a chef to cook eggs and omelettes to order, beautiful fruit buffet and extras. Yes, expensive but there are occasions that you wish to celebrate with a special meal. The weak point were the breads which were packaged. The setting is pretty in a dining room next to the pool.

I suspect your post is really going to result in quite a list...LOL. Everyone has their own idea of a "breakfast place", for sure ! From "truck stop" style (not fancy just pile it high", to some places that have some great recipes of their own (like KeKe's pancake batter... with the slightly vanilla taste).

My absolute favorite has not opened yet, Another Broken Egg. First ate there at the insistence of friends who practically DEMANDED we not leave Charleston without eating there. Don't think it had spread so much as a franchise back then, but sure looking forward to the one scheduled for Brownwood.

That's FOR SURE ! ! ! Broke my heart (boo hoo) when even the "upscale" cruise lines began using that colored corn syrup too ! I now take my own... yep, the strange old lady takes her small bottle with her for breakfast out and on vacations. But I still remember when Cracker Barrel was only in Tennessee and ONLY served real maple syrup in individual bottles. Oh how times change right ?

Darrel's , Billy's , First Watch , or Evans Prairie.

Unfortunately, Evans Prairie stopped serving breakfast several years ago. So that’s no longer an option.

OrangeBlossomBaby 12-08-2022 03:59 PM

It depends on what you mean by "best." Some folks consider a McDonald sausage egg and cheese mcmuffin to be the best fast-food breakfast sandwich. And some of us wouldn't eat one of those no matter who made it.

Some folks consider "good" to be smoked salmon, caviar, and goat cheese on toast tips. Others prefer a good old fashioned 2 eggs over easy, homefries, bacon, and white toast with butter and jelly. Some prefer theirs with grits on the side.

For "good" in my opinion - there's nothing. A decent breakfast would be the Williamsburg on a toasted garlic bagel from Brooklyn Bagels on 441. That's lox, cream cheese, raw onion, add capers for an extra fee.

Second best, for me, would be 1 egg scrambled well done, grill-top homefries also well done, 2-4 slices of hickory-smoked bacon grilled, not fried or microwaved, rye toast with real actual butter - not margarine. Darrell's is pretty good - though they always screw up the toast. Either burnt edges, or with a big nasty slab of margarine just sitting there congealed on the second slice, or both.

Really? They blend the eggs?! No wonder they're so fluffy.

eweissenbach 12-18-2022 06:16 PM

Well, you have a variety of choices by now! I like Darrell’s Diner and First Watch, but for my money the best is Glenview CC for the weekend buffet. Prime Rib, eggs Benedict, fresh fruit, biscuits and gravy and everything else you can think of including bottomless mimosas for $19.99.

Daxdog 12-19-2022 08:29 AM

Pancakes

Just a hole in the wall but check out Todd and Shelly’s in, we’ll don’t know what town it’s in just go north on 301 and turn left on SE Abshier for about 1/2 mile on the right. I know it doesn’t look like much but you will love it.
