Go to Cody's and observe for your self. Yes, Cody's is our favorite bar and favorite dining spot in The Villages, and that is because of the overall experience of staff and food quality. Like most couples, I see the bad first and my wife always finds the best in people so we are a balanced team. We were at Cody's the other night when Just Mike was playing outside and everyone was smiling with their toes a tapping.

I agree. We have been going there since opening day which just happens to be my birthday. We love it there. Awesome managers & employees. Everyone is always smiling. It's a great place to go. They have great entertainment & the food is good !!!

tainsley 10-26-2012 06:11 AM

We go to Cody's once or twice a week. Enjoy the entertainment. Food is good...like the shrimp! Friendly managers, waitstaff and bartenders! Always a good crowd. Always a good time!

The owner has no experience in customer service. I take it, my nor my friends business does not matter to him or what we experienced. Other customers saw it.

He definitely needs anger management counseling. I believe you.

He's probably "expressed" himself that way his entire life and doesn't know any better.......but no one should be subjected to his misplaced anger.

There are many other restaurants, all over TV.

p.s. people our age have enough life experience not to feel a need to make up stories or spoof or rant on............

Everyone handles stress in different ways. A normally nice smiling person can lash out at others when under stress. We have all seen examples of this behavior. That does not make the actor a bad person but very unpleasant to be around in stressful situations. I know restaurant management can be very stressful at times. Most companies have management training programs to train managers how to handle stressful situations without alienating employees and customers. Maybe someone close to him could bring this to his attention in a nice way.

With all the posters on the forum who state they have never had any problem at Cody's and the staff is always so friendly and management is cooperative - why believe what one ranter says? I contend it never happened.

Of course, it is everyone's option to believe whatever they want and to eat wherever they wish.

Celebrated my birthday at Codys last night. Their birthday is the same as mine. Had an awesome time with friends. Ralph DiNome was entertaining & did a great job. Lots of fun, laughs, dancing and oh yea, drinks. LOL

On that topic of anonymity. I shake your hand Steve. You tell YOUR name and show YOUR face and when YOU post I listen attentively because I respect what you have to say.

I grit my teeth at the rant and run posts on here.

The meanest won't even give a clue as to who they are or where they live or if they live here at all. THEY never come to Crispers for the meet and greets.... But we sure know after reading them awhile what they don't like (usually the Morses) and who they like to jab.

You are left to wonder what is their motivation. Are they disgruntled or fired employees, people who can't move here for some reason or just folks who like to start trouble?

I also dislike people who hijack threads like I just did.

Bonny 10-27-2012 07:52 AM

CaliforniaGirl 10-27-2012 07:59 AM

In many, many visits to Cody's I have had only one bad experience...after a 40-minute wait, drinks, appetizers, salad, bread & dinners all arrived at once - not enough room on the table for everything. Complained to the manager, who was very nice and comped our appetizers. That one bad experience certainly won't keep me away - am going there tonight for a birthday celebration, as a matter of fact.

My eyes see colors differently and I have no way of knowing which is the true color, and it matters not a bit to me. I feel the same way about opinions - two people can experience the same thing and have completely different reactions. Likewise, I base my restaurant opinions on my own experience and no one else's.

Gracie,
A Hijacking is sometimes the only way to keep a thread from deteriorating beyond repair...like this one. :highfive:

But an interesting and grammatically correct use of the adjective, ‘affecting’.

The real problem arises when people confuse the first spelling with the second: “effect.” This too can be two different words........

So what you're saying in effect, Ed, is that you'd like to effectively have an affect as a means to effect .........

No, not when it is being used to describe the ability to influence thinking, as in the following sentence:

"The sales person was brilliantly affective in luring the customer to buy his products", shows that the former was able to influence the thinking of the customer so that he approves the product, and decides to buy it. Therefore, the salesperson was an affective person.

Some additional examples:

"The painting was so affective on his mind that he couldn't help thinking about it the whole day!"
"The loss of her child was affective enough for the mother to fall ill."

Tuesday there will be a fundraiser for Toys For Tots at Codys starting at 4:00. John, Codys owner, will be kicking it off with a generous donation. It starts at 4:00. People can bring new unwrapped toys or cash. Dunning Shaw will be entertaining. Food will be put out & it will be happy hour til 7:00.

Don't Knock Cody's

Hey, I like Cody's. Please don't knock it. It's even in "Evil in Paradise". It could become a historical sight for TV. Wonder which counter chairs those two lovers sat.

We were excited because some of our northern friends were back in town and it was one of their birthdays. We got a spot, but it was quickly damper by the present of a loud man, slamming dishes and yelling at the waitresses/waiters. Concerned I thought maybe it was he wanted our table but eventually found out he is the owner. Many of the patrons notice this individual frowning, yelling at the help which made for a very uncomfortable atmosphere. I attempted to explain to him how he was ruining our evening by his actions but he then started to yell at me. He stated that he didn’t care what I thought and that he would run his restaurant the way he wanted. I walked away knowing that there are too many other great restaurants in The Villages. Owner or not, it was a classic example of how not to treat customers. We won’t return!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. We have been there 3 times. The food was good all three, but we had very mixed experiences otherwise. The first time a new frog barfed in his prime rib at the bar, right next to my husband. Guess he was over celebrating...The second time was fine. The third time our silverware and a glass were dirty. The waitress was so slow to replace the dirty tableware that the food was cold by the time we received a new service. This was in September, so it was not even their busy time of the year. Our son likes it there, when he comes to visit us, so I guess we'll go back when he is in town. Otherwise I doubt we will. There are too many other places to spend our money.

I liked the descriptive "smiley" in your posting. I have been to Cody's countless times and it is almost always very good. There have been a couple of times when the service has not been stellar - but the server always takes a crayon and writes their name and their manager's name on the paper table covering. If there is any problem, notify the manager at that time and it will be resolved.

I do not know what resolution could have been done with the over-indulging patron, though. That is totally disgusting to even think about - but not Cody's fault - except maybe serving a drunk patron if that was the case.

For a very good meal and great ambiance, I like to go to Thai Ruby at Lake Sumter Landing. Try that place and ask for them to have the food Number 3 Spicy. Not too spicy but not bland. Excellent!!

The management is terrible and the music, especially Dunning Shaw, is frequently way too loud. Haven't been back in quite a while. I had a run in with the managers, reported them to the corporate headquarters who immediately forwarded my e-mail back to the manager to deal with it. His e-mails were as rude as he is in person.

Taltarzac725 11-23-2012 08:15 AM

Thumbs up for Cody's Tom Turkey 2012.

Cody's Original Roadhouse at Lake Sumter-- Yesterday we had one of the best Thanksgiving turkey meals since eating out at Thanksgiving over the past 5 out of 7 years in the Villages' area.

Golfingnut 11-23-2012 09:08 AM

We have gone to Cody's for several years due to the way they manage and the quality of music in the evenings. We like City Fire as well, but when it comes to management, ya cant do better than Cody's.

Bonny 11-23-2012 12:54 PM

Yepper, ya gotta love Codys and City Fire. Our 2 favorite places !! :pepper2:

Sorry to say but most franchisors could care less about things like this as long as the franchisee is up to date on his royalty payments.

This Codys is not a Franchise.

It is too bad, because the employees are all great, but the stress they must be under working in these conditions.

As you had mentioned, there are many other places in the Villages to give our money to, not this tyrant. Think twice about going to Cody's in the future, you are giving your money to a very ignorant man who only cares about the almight $, not the customers satisfaction.

We taught our kids as they grew up that how you treat a waiter, waitress, janitor, doorman, etc. speaks volumes about you and your character.

Having had one thoroughly disgusting meal there out of about 15, and a rude waitress has already made me not want to return there. The peanut shells etc. are okay, but I think that underneath them, the place needs a good SCRUBBING.
