Publix separates the oil and vinegar and spices. Oil and vinegar are in one bottle and the oregano and other spices are separate and the slices of meat are pretty thick. And Publix is closer to home.

I guess I don't understand the many comments regarding the lack of meat. last week we had a favorite of ours the Italian combo...at least I think that's what it is called, ham, salami, pepperoni & cheese. Both of our subs had plenty of meat. We were very satisfied. Guess its another case of personal preference.

My wife and I went to a Jersey Mike's in Illinois two months ago for the first time. We've been back a half dozen times since! It's healthy, nutritious stuff. PLenty of thin sliced meats sliced right in front of you, a fresh roll, and loads of crisp toppings. We eat healthy (most of the time) and for that, we love JM's.

Like kaydee says, there's plenty of meat. Honestly, when my wife, Cathy, and I eat a regular size sub, plus chips and a drink, we are stuffed to the gills! We skip the next scheduled meal. lol

The price is a tad high in Illinois. The regular size subs range from $6 to $6.50...maybe cheaper in TV? Sub plus drink plus chips for one person runs about $9. Ouch.

I'll give them a try.

Right now in terms of preference:

1. Firehouse subs - lots of meat and toasted properly. Also vote for best meatball sub around.
2. Publix - very good for a supermarket.
3. Subway - only in a pinch and always ask for double meat.

I hope Jersey Mike's doesn't change a thing. They are the best subs I've had since 1969 when I made subs at my cousin's sub shop, 'Billy's Famous Subs' on the boardwalk Ocean City, Maryland.

I don't understand why someone would want a thick amount of meat. The way JM's feathers the meat rather than layering it on thick is one of the reasons I've been there five times since they've opened. If you think JM's needs to pile on more meat, then maybe it's time to push away from the table.

sounds good - yum! our jersey shore locations make sure that the length of the sub roll is covered - don't need more than that! - but they don't slice so thin that you can read a newspaper thru it. i can't imagine the 'italian' - ham, salami, cappicola and cheese with thick slices of anything! :)

A few paper-thin slices of meat do not equal a "sub". As I said before if you like lots of bread and veggies then it's OK, but you're paying a LOT for what you are getting. Your last sentence was unnecessary. Nobody elected you judge.

We went to JM when it first opened here in 2010. It was OK for the experience but we never went back a second time. Publix gives you a far better sandwich on Italian 5 grain bread for the price--IMHO. Publix will add whatever you like, roasted peppers, jalapeno peppers, onions, pickles, cole slaw, oil and vinegar, Asian sauce etc. or all of the above Publix sandwiches will easily feed two people. My brother in law swears by Subway, so I'm willing to concede that like art food satisfaction may be very subjective.

I've been several times since they opened and get their regular Italian hoagie and it's loaded with meat. I asked the owner when he was done slicing the meat, and he said there were 19 slices of meat and cheese on the 8 inch roll. They bake the bread fresh every morning and he said they get the dough shipped down from jersey so it's authentic. Being from South Jersey, this is my favorite part! Awesome service, awesome food, and the owner is always in there making the hoagies with the crew. I think they're here to stay this time!

I am wondering if anyone has recently been to Jersey Mike's in TV. What did you think now that it's been open for a while?

Went there this weekend for the first time. Philly cheesesteak for my husband - extra grilled onions, no peppers was no problem. Since it was to go, they wrapped it in foil and it stayed warm until I got home. Husband's verdict was that it was excellent. I had a small Italian sub and really liked it. Plenty of meat and cheese, choice of toppings (you don't have to get it "mike's way"), and really fresh tasty bread. Will definitely return.

I went there yesterday about 1pm and the place was packed, every table inside and out was taken. Luckily I was getting my #3 regular on white to go. We usually go at least once every week or two since they opened. Very nice people, Great Subs!!
