The———name.

Stopped going to Palmer years ago when they charged me $3.50 for soda water.

Toasting the 1/2” French bread in the oven, then adding copious amounts of Gruyère to insure bread stays crisp, while Gruyère has the almost perfect melt.

Ladle in about 1/4 cup of onions from the pot add stock to the crock. Then gently float the toasted bread returning to oven with extra cheese to get that slightly brown top.

So I get the $18 for French onion soup because I am sure that’s how they prepare it.:clap2: (holding a Sheldon sign)

Mods we really need a Sheldon sign icon

It's amazing how efficient Sysco Foods is, at doing all that work prior to canning.

Prices are on the menu. Don't order something if you think it is out of line, otherwise, don't complain.

I've discovered online menus are not always up to date.

According to the restaurant, the actual price for a bowl of onion soup is $17. Their website menu shows a price of $9 on one page and $15 on another page.

Cobrasally 01-27-2024 11:51 AM

Seriously? A bowl of French Onion soup is listed on their current menu as $9. Either you had 2 bowls, or they overcharged you for a 2nd bowl.

See Post No. 53. The lady at the restaurant told me that the price is $17. On their website, the front page lists the price as $9, but if you click the download button, it says $15. They really need to make up their mind about the price.

Had pasta supposedly with vegetables and chicken. $26.00. No veggies, drops of chicken.
Someone had salad with meat. Meat was weird. They said like liver. Maybe was that fake stuff.

This is why we eat at home 98% of the time. Though maybe shopping at Publix is defeating our effort to save money by cooking at home. ;)

Complaint police? If you are dining out and sitting at a table, you probably want to order something that you normally like. Chicken gumbo isn’t everyone’s bag.

Point being the OP wasn’t dining at a fine bistro in Paris and $18. is a lot of change for broth with onions in it at Palmer. Each to their own but we appreciate the heads up.;)

Stryker 01-27-2024 05:08 PM

Yes, you’re right.

The prices have been increased in the last month or so. Nothing new here. The prices are ridiculous, and the food is mediocre at best. $70 for a veal chop, with potato and vegetable extra cost items. One of the more expensive restaurants in the villages, and the food is, maybe, a step above diner food. That said, they have some of the best servers in the villages. If you go there, it’s not for the food.
