That leg humping thing is their way of marking potential "hosts" for their Friends Their dangly bits and behinds secrete a chemical that makes humans attribute childlike human qualities to them. The critters transfer this chemical to humans by licking themselves then licking the humans either on the lips, nose, or eyes. Forewarned is forearmed.

Fantastic theory......especially the licking themselves and then licking the humans face... .:bigbow::coolsmiley:

No dogs allowed? I may be wrong but I haven't read one sign here yet

If a dog is allowed then an owner has every right vis a vis owners responsibilities?

Beside which a poster already stated that the only public establishment with a permit is Cody's

A dog is an "individual"??? vis a vis humans being described as individuals.
As individuals used here explains why some dog owners walk their dogs in baby carriages

As long as a dog is behaving vis a vis the unpredictability of when and to whom a dog will strike/bite.

The Villages is first and foremost for people

Cest la vie

Rubicon, you kind of lost me with all the "vis a vis'. In any case, my post that you quoted was written several days ago and it was in response to specific comments from other posters. To quote it now outside of the context in which it was written is unfair. For instance, my mention of the "individuality" of dogs was in response to a couple of posts that purported to "know" what makes all dogs happy. Dogs DO have unique breed traits and personalities, and based on those personalities, they like or dislike doing different activities. So a blanket statement such as "your dog is happier when left home", is not true for all dogs.

As far as "no dog signs", I've seen several "service dogs only" signs. Yes, I read the statement that Cody's was the only establishment that had a permit. Are you sure that information is current and/or correct? I don't know...don't really care.

We must do Red Sauce now...

Hats off to Red Sauce. We moved here from Miami. Many of the restaurants in South Beach permit dogs to accompany their owner where the dog can stay on on the ground next to the table in the outside eating areas. We were able to bring our little Carly tonight to the Red Sauce patio location. We had a good dinner and it was nice to bring our dog with us. She had been crated all day while we were in a Orlando. Being able to take her with us to our dinner location prevented me from feeling guilty for leaving her in the crate for a couple more hours. Thank you Red Sauce!

Ever heard of Coprophagia, it a dog thing... and all dogs will do it as it is in their nature being the animals they are.

This may be why some people are not so thrilled about having dogs licking around on them or sharing their dinner table.

Yes, I've heard of it. And no, not all dogs do it, does "your pitt bull" do it?

They will all do it, it's a natural instinct , and yes he will if given the chance...but I don't let him ever lick my face.. If you own a dog you just have to know they will do it. :yuck:

I guess we would also like to think the special dogs here don't lick themselves clean too but that is also not true..:yuck:

It is a totally natural thing for dogs to do as noted in this link and that is why they do it. Pigs do it naturally and chickens love it, dogs sometimes prefer it to dog food as mentioned too;

Why Dogs Eat Poop - The 5 Primary Causes

This activity is just a natural thing for dogs but we need to remember this when others are not happy about having other people's dogs in their face and at their tables. I don't take my dog to restaurants or the squares (YET) as he would likely like to have a couple of the smaller dogs for his dinner. :spoken:

Oh, you really have a pit bull? That surprises me. I just assumed you were making a joke as I've never heard a responsible bully breed owner make a comment like you did in post #31, even as a joke, considering the problems the breeds are up against. Well, enjoy your pooch and hopefully he'll grow out if his problem. Most pups do.

Don't do jokes and be surprised I guess, we all know what assume does, and now you have heard it and I didn't say he was a pup, he is just new to me, and it not just a pup problem, stop kidding yourself and face the fact that yours will do it too, any dog will.. dogs do what dogs naturally do...

Hey red sauce people

I just looked at the menu and am shockingly impressed.

I heard a while back that the owners are CIA trained, I think I had their food at an appliance store demonstration in upstate NY. Also heard they were the chefs at Glen Sanders Mansion. Can't wait.

My main point is that there are all kinds of allowable activities around here that some folks don't like. Whether it be dogs in public, unruly kids, line dancers, drinking in the square, bicycle riders, joggers, etc., etc. But if it's allowed, it's allowed...and if someone doesn't like it, they can leave. There's always going to be someone who doesn't like something. If we outlawed all the activities that people complain about, we might as well just sit on the porch in a rocking chair and knit booties and carve wood. I think folks need to lighten up and not sweat the petty stuff (or pet the sweaty stuff). :)

I agree! The Villages is a pet friendly community. There are all kinds of allowable activities, including dogs at the Squares. Dog haters need to consider this before purchasing.

I love dogs. Don't have any but love them.

I like it when they lick my face.

I don't like bullies, I won't let them hug me or kiss me.

You never know where they've had their mouths.

One of the reasons we want to be villager's is that it is a dog friendly community
We are looking forward to being able to take our, PALIE with us when we go out
I do think small children can be more disruptive then a dog and I love small children .
It not about like or dislike its about living and enjoying our lives with the people and things we love

That would make me not to go to Red Sauce. I think pets should have there place and at a restaurant is not the place for a pet. Love dogs but not at a eating place.

I like dogs. We lost our dog before moving down to Florida. I've seen the dogs at Red Sauce and other eateries. IF they're going to be there then the Restaurant Owners should comply with the County rules for the animal to be there Period. That being said I won't stop going to a Restaurant just because there's an animal there. The Animal bothers me a lot less then the person at the bar smoking a damn rotten smelling CIGAR. My last post on this subject.

Some of the commentary has become too pointed and personal. The original topic has been thoroughly discussed.

The thread is now closed.
