Bananas

Next year , after giving some to your neighbors, please take them to a food bank. There are several around The Villages. I have to do that every year.

Africa could be a powerhouse if it could get its act together. Even with ECOWAS and SADC the continent is too fractured to do much of anything.

Could you have done it before booking the trip?

If you had a map of Africa, with the country borders marked out but no names, I would think 99% of Americans could not pick 10 of the 54 countries.

It actually came up in my daily game today….check out globle-game.com and beware the spelling. It is somehow related to Wordle

I would call that south of Zambia and west of Zimbabwe.

Not sure that is where Mali is.

I assume you are referring to post 6? You are correct. That is not Mali. It is Mauritania.

I thought Mauritania was a cruise ship!! Incidentally, the ship was named after ancient Roman province of Mauretania on the northwest African coast, not the modern Mauritania to the south.

But he got Eritrea!!

A country in Africa, located southeast of center, near Zambia and Tanzania.

I can, but only because one of my kids had a non-profit next door in Namibia. I do know a lot of them though from sponsoring children through Compassion International so I look at a map when praying for them.

One of my go to places. Land locked - southern Africa, but it has the Kalahari Desert which is actually a savannah. An Amazing Place with great diversity of plants and animals.
Bother to Google it. 🧐

I think I got it!

Isn't that the name of the new group of homes in the extreme southern side of the Villages that also feature both an East AND West village? LOL

*** on a serious note, in Botswana, Setswana is the national language and is spoken by most of the population with English as a second language.

Without looking I think it's just north of South Africa. Now I'm going to look.

I agree that many of the countries are very small and it probably leads to the economic problems in Africa.

I was looking at a current map of Africa. There are 54 countries. At the end of WW2, there were only four independent countries. They were Egypt, Ethiopia, Liberia and South Africa. By 1970, there were 48 nations in Africa.

Alaska has a total area of 665,384 square miles.
Texas has a total area of 268,596 square miles.
Florida has a total area of 65,758 square miles.

The biggest country in Africa is Algeria which is 919,595 square miles.
If Alaska were in Africa, it would be the 5th largest country in Africa and if Florida were in Africa,
Florida would be the 35th largest country in Africa so there are 20 countries in Africa smaller than Florida.

Little known fact - if you flew straight east from the Villages and landed at the prime meridian, you would be in Algeria. Before looking at a map, I thought we would be in Spain.
